Position Summary

    Under general direction of the Manager – Software Development contributes to the software design, development, maintenance, and support activities for the AmerisourceBergen Technology Group (ABTG). Designs, documents, tests, and modifies current and new software development applications; Troubleshoots, identifies, and resolves application defects; Reviews requirements documents and helps to develop solutions in order to meet these requirements; Leads the effort in developing specifications and designs for development projects as well as contributes to specific assignments. Performs activities requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Contributes effectively as a member of the team; takes ownership of individual assignments and projects.
  2. Troubleshoots, identifies, and resolves application defects.
  3. Provides third tier support when required.
  4. Develops, codes and unit tests design solutions.
  5. Leads and participates in writing and reviewing software functional specifications, design reviews, and code reviews.
  6. Creates detailed designs, performs analyses, creates prototypes, and documents completed designs.
  7. Mentors and directs the efforts of more entry-level Engineers.
  8. Contributes to the development and achievement of ABTG organizational goals and objectives.
  9. Participates in activities such as reviewing marketing requirements.
  10. Functions as task, project, or team leader when assigned; represents the organization on project teams and may perform technical project leadership roles while fostering teamwork and collaboration within and across work groups.
  11. Provides input for Software Development budgeting and scheduling.
  12. Provides input for Software Development software and hardware purchases.
  13. Performs related duties as assigned.
Experience and Education Requirements

    Requires technical training and professional experience in a software development related field such as electrical engineering, computer science, or related field, generally obtained through completion of a four year bachelor's degree program or equivalent combination of experience and education. Normally requires a minimum of four (4) years directly related and progressively responsible experience.
Minimum Skills, Knowledge and Ability Requirements

  1. Thorough knowledge and understanding of business principles, processes and technology
  2. Thorough understanding of software development principles, processes and standards
  3. Thorough understanding of object oriented programming principles
  4. Expert C++ software development experience (preferably Borland C++) in a client/server environment
  5. PowerBuilder software development experience in a client/server environment
  6. Experience with Oracle relational database (9i and 11g)
  7. Good analytical, conceptual and problem solving skills to evaluate business problems and apply knowledge to identify appropriate solutions
  8. Good interpersonal skills
  9. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  10. Strong organizational skills; attention to detail
  11. Ability to use office equipment such as printers, copiers, and faxes
  12. Knowledge of computers to operative effectively with Microsoft Office Suite of applications; PCs, Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and 2008, Windows XP and Windows 7
  13. Ability to travel up to 10% as necessary for business purposes
