Responsibilities

As a member of the Platform Technology development team, the Software Engineer II should be able to assist in the design, development, and maintenance of a set of applications and services used within the department. Besides having a strong technical background, this person should be able to work in a dynamic development environment, actively participate in code reviews, and provide feedback during the evaluation of new technologies and processes for improving our development environment.

• Work with different PTG product development teams to assist in all phases of development, including analysis, design, implementation, deployment, and post production support
• Participate in the improvement of some of our existing C++ and J2EE internal applications by adding new features and providing integration mechanisms with other systems
• Troubleshoot applications across different systems to analyze and identify problems and proposing fixes or workarounds
• Work closely with Team leads and other developers to determine release features, define milestones, and provide accurate deadlines
• Interact with members of other groups (DBAs, System Administrators, QA) to troubleshoot applications, submit platform and software requirements, and establish testing parameters
• Work under very little supervision, independently make proper technical decisions, and follow design, development, and integration best practices
• Create requirement specifications, design and system documentation.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 3 years overall experience in a professional software engineering capacity. Minimum of 3 years of experience with C++ and Java developments

  • Experience with Linux development environments (RedHat, CenTOS, Debian)

  • Experience working with J2EE, Java and XML on a variety of platforms

  • Understanding of RDBMS (preferably under Oracle, MySQL, Apache Derby, and Hibernate)

  • Working experience of file transfer protocols; FTP, SFTP, scp, and network file systems; NFS, CIFS

  • Thorough knowledge of data structures (linked lists, vectors, hash maps/tables

  • Working experience of one of the testing framework; JUnit, TestNG, mockpp

  • Experience with building and compiling application using Apache Ant and GNU make

  • Working knowledge of C standard library and C++ standard template library

  • Working knowledge of Apache Tomcat, Apache Commons, and Xstream

  • Comfortable of web services, jsp, servlet, beans, Apache CXF, and Spring

  • Some knowledge of video and audio codecs such as MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, PCM, etc.

  • Some knowledge of broadcast file formats such as MXF, MPEG-2 program/transport streams, etc.

  • Team player with strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

  • Highly motivated, hands-on technical developer with the ability to follow a rapid development software cycle and work under pressure

  • Experience in a collaborative, team-driven engineering environment

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
