Software Engineer (Mobile) at Wikimedia Foundation (San Francisco, CA) (allows remote)
Job Description
Wikimedia’s Mobile Web Team is looking for a stellar engineer to build, scale, and optimize our contributory and readership features. Success means your work will be used prominently by brand new editors, first time smartphone users in the developing world, and power users within our own community. With 3.2 billion mobile page views a month we believe that every user should be able to contribute to Wikipedia in some way.
Skills Requirements
- You love writing code in multiple languages (JavaScript, PHP, etc.)
- You have a strong background in JavaScript, familiarity of javascript frameworks and MVC architectures
- You are proficient with object oriented PHP
- You see dips in performance graphs as an opportunity for optimizing code
- You have a clear understanding of how, together, the web stack and the end users communicate
- Working within a self-directed, cross-functional team excites you
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
As an added bonus, we use Open Source technology exclusively so this is your chance to work on a highly visible fast growing project open for the entire world to see.
