Software Systems Specialist IV

The job holder researches and recommends the appropriate system software to meet corporate standards and objectives for system performance. S/he designs, implements, integrates and supports various mainframe, mid-frame, distributed, web and PC operating systems and ancillary/utility products. S/he assists in the design of overall system performance objectives and makes recommendations about the corporate technical direction. S/he is involved in all phases of implementation and performs software installations and documents in all environments (mainframe, mid-range, distributed, web and PC). Disk Storage Performance Specialist is responsible for: Proactive Disk Storage monitoring and alerting. Investigation and resolution of performance problems related to disk storage access. Included in this responsibility is assisting in the development and maintenance of policies, standards, processes, systems and measurements that enable the organization to manage disk storage and maintain high performance of the disk subsystems. · Minimum of 2 years experience in Unix (AIX or Solaris) system administration · Minimum of 2 years experience in z/OS Operating System internals · Minimum of 2 years experience in Disk Storage Administration · Knowledge and experience with native Unix performance tools, such as sar, top, nmon, etc. · Knowledge of z/OS performance tools such as RMF, Omegamon, ECC Performance Manager · Knowledge of Disk Storage Architecture, EMC in particular. · Strong analytical and problem solving skills · Excellent written and verbal communication skills Desired: · Experience in using vendor performance tools, such as Prognosis, HP Openview, Best1,RMF, Omegamon, and ECC Performance Manager. · Knowledge of Unix virtualization platforms, such as AIX LPARs or Solaris zones · Experience and knowledge of Windows, VMware, Citrix, z/OS Minimum 6 - 8 years experience required. Job holder must have in-depth knowledge of the company's total computing environment, including heterogeneous, open systems and their impact on the infrastructure . S/he must have expertise in developing detail-level functional requirement documentation and application testing environments. S/he must also have lead experience with implementing new or enhanced applications into production. Job holder must have experience with designing and executing major software installations and implementing a security system. S/he must be experienced at addressing a variety of technical (hardware, software or application) problems. S/he must also be customer-service oriented, able to build cooperative relationships with people and have strong oral and written communication skills. Job holder must be an experienced problem solver who champions creative solutions and is able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. B.S. or B.A. or equivalent work experience required; advanced degree beneficial; certification beneficial.
