Software Test Engineer

 

My client is a leading provider of IPTV and Set Top Box solutions. They have an urgent need for a Software Test Engineer to come in and join the Testing team.

 

Job purpose:

 

To undertake execution of test cases against Set Top Box/Media Centre firmware releases, bug fixes and ad-hoc requests from customers. Identify new areas of testing together with the creation of new test cases and test plans.

 

Main Accountabilities:

 

·         Functional and non-functional system testing for Set Top Box/Media Centre and firmware

·         Creation and maintenance of test cases/procedures for all new features according to business and customer requirements

·         Creation of test data and software to facilitate improved testing with a focus on automation

·         Manual execution of tests, recording of results, investigation and logging of faults

·         Review of project documentation – software specifications, schedules and test plans

·         Follow fault reporting processes

·         Attend bug review meetings, where necessary

·         Work with the test lead, the rest of the test team and the project manager to ensure deadlines are met

Key qualifications, skills and experience:

 

Essential:

·         Experience of working in a software test environment involving writing test procedures, designing test cases, manual test execution and fault identification

·         Experience of Black Box testing

·         Experience of automated test scripts and /or automated test tools

·         Knowledge of Unix and/or Linux Operating systems

·         Experience of Defect Tracking systems

·         Understanding of the software development and test lifecycle

·         Good verbal and written communication skills as well as experience of dealing with customers on software related matters

·         Excellent attention to detail and ability to report any problems as quickly and accurately as possible

·         Good working knowledge of Windows XP as well as MS Office products, principally Excel and Word

·         Experience of HTML and JavaScript

 

Desirable:

·         Knowledge of Audio and Visual standards and test methods

·         Ability to manage own workload with tight timescales and with changing and/or conflicting requirements

·         ISEB Foundation Certificate in Software Testing

·         Experience of testing embedded systems
