Solution Architect for our global Logistics Software Engineering program
Your leadership will shape the way we deliver world class Logistics Software capabilities at Vistaprint. You will architect, define and lead the implementation of solutions and practices that both provide a core competitive advantage and enable our software engineering team to meet the challenges of a rapidly growing Logistics program (handling $1B in annual revenue) and an expanding global network of highly automated manufacturing facilities.
Your role:
The Fulfill Demand (FD) Logistics Software Engineering program is responsible for systems in support of global shipping and logistics. The FD Logistics team works together with our internal clients to identify, architect, design and deliver software that supports manufacturing logistics. FD Logistics Software Engineering provides core capabilities that support 24M shipments (valued at $1B in annual revenue) to 130+ countries from three manufacturing facilities located in Canada, the Netherlands and Australia.
As the Solution Architect, you will
- Lead strategic planning for the FD Logistics program
- Create and maintain a logistics solution architecture roadmap
- Develop an extensible and evolving approach to the logistics architecture that supports long term geographic growth, global volume and manufacturing capacity
- Propose and champion business cases and process changes to improve team effectiveness
- Provide solution alternatives and scope estimates to program manager and/or business owners to achieve business objectives
- Promote the Architectural Guiding Principles within Logistics and Fulfill Demand software engineering organization
- Model the applications, subsystems and systems within logistics and their relationships and integration points
- Collaborate with the career managers, technical managers and program managers to ensure the continued growth of technologists within the logistics program
- Identify skill gaps and work with program manager and technical managers to address them
- Collaborate with worldwide manufacturing systems engineering groups and industrial engineering groups
- Insure the logistics solution architecture supports lean manufacturing principles, promotion of continuous flow, reduction of WIP, elimination of waste and Kaizen activities
- Actively support over 20 software engineers, providing guidance, insight and feedback
- Maintain and document an appropriate level of preparedness for disaster recovery for the multiple shipping systems supporting all sites
To be successful, you will need:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering or equivalent preferred
- Minimum 5 years of application architecture experience in a custom application development environment
- 10+ years of software development experience
- Experience in a scalable distributed application development
- Experience developing and maintaining platform technology for medium to large enterprises
- Strong interest in systematization and documentation
- Ability to lead discussions of architectural trade-offs in complex, high volume, transactional software systems
- Object-oriented design expertise
- Proven ability to design and implement complex relational database schema
- Knowledge of C# language features, and .NET Framework library and the ability to diagnose and resolve subtle bugs in application, framework or operating system code
- Proven track record of teaching and/or mentoring software developers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Fluency in patterns, practices and technology for large-scale software development, testing deployment
- Strong performance optimization skills across all tiers
