The Solutions Architect (SA) will launch a new Sales capability for Equinix by providing consulting services targeted at companies with the most demanding network capacity, interconnection, and performance needs, such as digital content and media, gaming, content peering, and financial trading customers. The candidate will ideally be located in one of Equinix's existing U.S. cities and also requires significant cross-functional coordination with Sales and Product Marketing organizations. The position is a high-visibility leadership position both within and outside of the company, and as such, the ideal candidate will possess a strong balance of self-motivation, senior technical skills, advanced client handling, and prior experience supporting recognized Internet companies.
Responsibilities
- Building a network consulting practice to grow the quality and quantity of the company's business focused on network interconnection and bandwidth delivery.
- Build strategic long-term relationships with a strategic set of target customers.
- Develop numerical analysis techniques to understand large amounts of network performance and traffic data.
- Understand the goals of the company and position, and effectively develop strategies to meet those goals.
- Propose and design technical solutions and create SOWs tailored to clients' needs to win consulting projects.
- Plan, execute, and communicate results against the scope in the SOW.
- Develop requirements for design, implementation, and operations phases of a project and manage the project life-cycle.
- Understand how to intuitively work with existing sales, sales engineering, and product marketing teams to meet objectives.
- Provide technical and domain expertise throughout the sales process.
- Organizing additional technical resources within the organization to address client needs when necessary.
- Continually refresh knowledge to maintain industry leadership.
- Medium travel to Equinix HQ, industry events and customer engagements.
Qualifications Experience
- This individual will bring 10+ years of proven experience in the areas of Internet Service Provider-oriented Internet and network architecture and operations, equipment selection, bandwidth acquisition and pricing strategy.
- Experience working in a senior IP network planning or architecture role at an ISP, telecoms operator, carrier or CDN preferred.
- Substantial telecommunications experience required; technical and commercial knowledge of network operator topology and architecture, IP routing and CDN platforms strongly preferred.
- Proficient in router and switch features and configuration, BGP and other routing protocols, performance measurement, tuning and scaling, and reliability and security techniques.
- Must have a thorough understanding of, and experience with, servers, storage, layer 3 networking and enterprise software.
- Candidate will exhibit confidence and influence when presenting verbal and written proposals to prospects, structuring consulting agreements, and be comfortable developing SOWs and related consulting deliverables.
- Candidate will be comfortable speaking at conferences, acting as an authority in his field, and prospecting from industry events.
- Candidate must be comfortable handling all phases of a consulting engagement, and will ideally show potential to attract and manage additional talent over time.
- Bachelors degree in a related field required, Masters degree preferred; certifications highly regarded.
