GENERAL SUMMARY Working under minimal direction and exercising considerable latitude develops and supports information models and structures for a product or system, with the objective of delivering optimal usability and efficiency for the involved content. Assists in developing end-user information requirements, determines needed relationships between informational structures, and ensures that navigation models allow for optimal information retrieval, which involves categorization of content types and development of their hierarchical structure. Works with development, user experience, quality assurance personnel and end-users to ensure that components of a product or environment work optimally with its information model, and that tools/technologies for developing the product/environment conform to rules implied/enforced by the model. Drives innovation through prototyping activities and new technology assessments. Responsible for developing or executing project plans and schedules, and delivering accurate and timely end product. Contributes to the development and achievement of organizational goals and objectives. May develop new programs and or processes as well as modifying and enhancing existing processes and or programs. May act as a mentor for Jr. Information Architects PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES · Exerts sphere of influence outside of organization; offers proposed design changes and suggestions to processes and product; actively participates and takes a lead role in design and development projects. Actively seeks out new projects and initiatives; collaborates cross functionally, and independently plans, coordinates, and executes projects under only very limited direction. · Exercises considerable latitude in diagramming information architectures and/or user interfaces using results of content analyses, site maps, and/or wire frame schematics; documents required information structures, relationships, presentation of content to end-users, and business logic for content management templates. Actively seeks customer input and may take responsibility for customer situations. · Designs processes and prototype development to ensure that information is both useful and usable. With limited direction, creates and defines business flows and other functional requirements; audits competitive sites and/or systems, documenting best practices. Uses prototyping activities and industry knowledge to assess new and existing technologies. · Develops controlled vocabularies and documents relationships between information structures; develops hierarchical classification systems or navigation or other categorization needs. · Ensures consistency among tagging schemes for information access via tools for information access, including search, browse, or forms. · Documents all levels of prototypes through final specifications, including UI/system behaviors, user interaction models, workflow, interaction requirements, etc. · Qualifications: - A degree in a related field, such as technical communications, human-computer interaction, library science, graphic design or industrial design. - Training in most of the following: Information architecture, writing, interactive design and usability. - Design experience for information development and delivery mechanisms (such as web portals), for example, HTML, web browser dependencies and content management systems. - Experience with the following: Graphics and charting tools such as Visio/Illustrator/Photoshop, authoring tools such as Word and Arbortext, content management systems such as Documentum, DTDs and schemas for information modeling. Education Required: Bachelors (Non -Technical) Experience Required: 7+ years relevant experience
