The purpose of the position is to provide and ensure appropriate clinical cover of ultrasound duties for a temporary period while the incumbent is on maternity leave.
The Sonographer will be required to provide a high standard of service in complex clinical procedures. This position will provide clinical supervision for the department and as the sole Sonographer, will be required to work unsupervised. In addition, he/she will be responsible for the organisation of the clinical workload as well as associated clerical and administrative duties that need to be performed before, during and after each examination. This includes and is not limited to, accurate record keeping, documentation, statistics gathering and report distribution and other associated duties.
This is a Temporary Full-time position until 1st February 2013 and classified as Radiogrpaher Level 3, Grade 3. This position is located in Queanbeyan which belongs to Southern NSW Local Health District. Job share will be considered.

The Sonographer will be required to:
- Perform a wide range of Ultrasound examinations in adherence to the protocols set out by the Australian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine/ reporting Radiologists and NSW Ministry of Health standards and criteria.
- Maintain CPD activities to remain on the ASAR registry.
- Treat patients in a courteous, professional manner having regard to their rights to privacy, dignity and confidentiality ensuring compliance with an ethical code of practice such as the ASUM “Policy on Diagnostic Ultrasound Services “.
- Modify examination techniques to ensure that all anatomical structures and physiological processes are demonstrated to respond to the initial clinical enquiry or which may arise in the course of the ultrasound examination.
- Perform other duties, which are outside the normal duties but are beneficial to patient well-being and departmental workflow as directed by the Head of Department or nominated delegate.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, radiologists, referrers and the various hospital departments whilst maintaining good working relationships with other employees.
- Be familiar with associated aspects of patient care such as nursing requirements, infection control and emergencies.
- Observe safe working practices in carrying out duties and bring to the Medical Imaging Manager’s attention any situation you deem unsafe.
- Liaise with the Medical Imaging Manager or nominated delegate, on any matters affecting the normal function and policy of the Department.
- Participate in staff meetings as a method of maintaining communication between management and staff and for projection of ideas to increase Department efficacy.
