South Florida Clinical Instructor Req #: 19706BR Division: Kaplan University State: Florida City: Pembroke Pines FT/PT: Part-Time Job Description Successful candidates will reside in the tri-county (Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach) South Florida area. Position Summary The Florida based Clinical Instructor will instruct and supervise students within an assigned clinical experience. Clinical experiences include lab, simulation, and facility based clinical practice. The Clinical Instructor is responsible for the overall planning, supervision, and evaluation of student performance. The Clinical Instructor will coordinate with the online and lead faculty members for each assigned nursing course to assure that the students meet the course outcomes. Key Job Responsibilities Participate in online course orientation and seminars as requested by the Course Lead. Meet with nursing clinical site director to provide information about the students learning goals and discuss staff role in the students educational experience. Provide the site staff with appropriate student learning materials. Develop student learning experiences and expectations that are consistent with the goals, objectives, and evaluative criteria in the course. Identify and assign appropriate patients for students clinical experience in collaboration with site staff and to meet the student learning outcomes. Coordinate student-learning experiences with didactic concepts through clinical assignments as well as pre and post conference discussions. Facilitate the application of students current skills and knowledge to the clinical experience. Facilitate students learning of clinical decision-making and critical thinking. Guide students to demonstrate professional behavior with particular emphasis on accountability for safety, their own learning and respect for all individuals. Conduct pre and post conferences as appropriate to students learning needs. Provide formative and summative evaluative feedback to students. Immediately notify the Academic Chair or designee of any problems or concerns with the clinical site. Schedule an evaluation conference for each student at the conclusion of the clinical experience. Provide effective, timely communication regarding students to the online, lead faculty and/or Academic Advisor particularly in instances of academic jeopardy or failure. Provide evaluative feedback to the nursing unit and the lead faculty and the online instructor at the conclusion of the clinical experience. Facilitate student evaluation of clinical instructor and clinical site. Minimum Qualifications Successful applicants will posses a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing AND must meet one of the following requirements: 1. Have the equivalent of at least two years of full-time experience in clinical practice as a registered nurse. 2. Be actively engaged in studies leading to the next highest Nursing degree for which eligible. 3. Have the equivalent of two years full- time, academic teaching in nursing education. Additionally, successful Applicants must hold an active, unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Florida plus 1 - 3 years related experience, clinical expertise, or certification in a specialty area and reside in the South Florida area. Ability to effectively operate all equipment that is used in the lab and clinical setting. Professionalism, maturity and effective decision making. Capable of functioning in a fast-paced environment requiring accurate performance of complex tasks. Preferred Qualifications Masters Degree strongly preferred.
