Job Description
- Prepare reports and press releases for publication as well as presentations for rating committees that assess the potential creditworthiness of Asia-Pacific sovereigns
- Act as primary and support analyst on sovereign credits
- Participate in sovereign missions to those countries, stay abreast of economic, political and market developments as well as understand the potential economic and sovereign risk implications of those developments
- Author special reports on credit relevant topics such as natural disasters and economic developments for both internal use and external publication
- Participate in and present to rating committees for both corporate and sovereign credits both within Asia and globally
- Create and update internal models based on government and market data to analyse yield curve and economic developments as well as aide in credit assessments
- Meet and build relationships with politicians, finance officials, think-tanks, private sector economists, political analysts and bank management officers as part of investigation and evaluation of sovereign creditworthiness
- Monitor developments globally and within the Asia-Pacific and determine the potential impact on sovereign creditworthiness
- Liaise with bank analysts and understand bank balance sheets to determine potential sovereign risk implications stemming from the banking sector
- Assist, train and advise junior sovereign analysts
- Contribute to reports on regional and global economic developments
- Convey house sovereign credit opinions to the local, regional and global media, investors and market participants as well as high level risk management officials from global financial institutions in one-on-one, small group and town hall settings
The Successful Applicant
- Economics training, preferably postgraduate degree (master's)
- At least 5 years' applicable professional experience likely gained in a public sector institution such as a finance ministry or central bank, or a multilateral development bank, or in an economics/research capacity in the private sector
- Must be able to draft clear English - a writing test forms part of our recruitment process
- Fluent English speaker (not necessarily native) – you must have capability to act as spokesperson for the firm on their credits e.g. set-piece presentations, investor meetings, TV interviews; presentation experience valued
- Capable of managing a busy workflow
- Self-starter
Ideal experience:
- Sovereign credit analysis experience
- Experience liaising with senior government and public sector officials - successful candidate would be required to lead meetings up to central bank governor / finance minister level
- Prior experience analysing regional (Asia-Pac) economies
- Applicable language skills in Asia
