Special Cases Officer
You have an understanding of the Canadian educational system and you want to make use of your excellent customer service and negotiation skills. You have worked in the educational system, preferably working with special needs individuals.
The Special Cases Officer analyzes, adjudicates and provides judgment regarding applications/requests for provisions and services in the areas of special cases and examination administration.
Primary responsibilities would be including:
*Responding to inquiries regarding policy and procedure interpretation relevant to student evaluation
*Evaluating a large number of applications and transferring relevant information to PDF files
*Making timely decisions focused on individual client needs, including interpretation of psycho-educational assessments, medical documentation and information obtained from school and/or jurisdiction
*Applying theoretical knowledge to a practical situation using innovative thought and extrapolation
*Performing administrative tasks in their day-to-day work, such as: file management, recommending policy and procedural changes, collaborating within the team on common procedural approaches
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
*Knowledge of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPP) and other related acts
*A basic ability to understand educational and psychological assessment reports
*A general understanding of mental health disorders and psychological diagnoses
*Advanced verbal and written communication skills
*Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, and problem solving skills.
*Customer service orientation
*Ability to deal with difficult clients and cope with stressful situations
*Knowledge of the full Microsoft Office suite and familiarity working with databases and electronic records
