Job Summary: This talented individual will oversee all activities of the Special Education Department, provide leadership, and supervise assigned personnel. Summary of essential job functions Formulate policies and procedures for new or revised programs or activities, such as screening, placement, education, and training of students Evaluates special education programs to ensure that program objectives are met Interprets laws, rules, and regulations to students, parents, and staff Recruits, selects, and evaluates staff Collaborates with Business Manager to prepare budget to provide financial support for programs Prepares reports for federal, state, and local regulatory agencies May contract with agencies for needed services, such as related services Coordinate and facilitate staff meetings for special education staff Direct the implementation of State and Federal legislation related to special education Coordinate with other Departments to implement and maintain an integrated student data Support principals in implementing Special Education programs and services Coordinate and facilitate parent engagement committees related to special education Assist with the design and development of staff professional development program Work with other managers and staff in the Division to improve efficiency and effectiveness of Division operations, programs, and services Work collaboratively with other Divisions and departments to meet school goals and ensure alignment of programs, services, and operations Direct and coordinate other special projects and duties as assigned by the Head of School Direct, implement, and coordinate grants as assigned by the Head of School Support the philosophy, mission, and schoolwide plan Requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Philosophical, educational, fiscal, and legal aspects of public/charter education Procedures, methods, techniques, and strategies related to the administration and operation of a K-12 school Pupil services trends, strategies, and techniques Program and activity evaluation strategies and procedures Methods, procedures, and strategies of instructional leadership Special Education instructional strategies and school curriculum Interpret and apply rules and regulations relating to the instruction and curriculum of Special Education students under the federal regulations Supervise and evaluate assigned personnel Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of groups and individuals Prepare and present comprehensive, effective oral and written reports Effectively advise appropriate personnel Minimum requirements Graduate training with a Master s Degree is preferred. Proven successful teaching and a minimum of three years of demonstrated leadership ability required in the Special Education field Minimum of five years education work experience in the Special Education field Strong organizational and time management skills Proficiency in MS Excel, MSWord, PowerPoint and Outlook Travel required No employee corrective or disciplinary actions within the last year EOE and Drug-Free Workplace The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.
