Job Title Specialty Coder Facility Aurora Health Care-505 Address 2900 W Oklahoma Ave City Milwaukee State WI County Milwaukee Zip Code 53215 # Hours Per Pay Period (Bi-weekly) 80 Schedule monday-friday flexible schedule Req # (optional) 74611BR Explore a Career In Clinical Information Services Job Description Please note, for all newly hired Specialty Coders, we are offering a $2000.00 sign on bonus with a one year work agreement! *Codes research cases and moderate to complex inpatient procedures and diagnoses using ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding protocols (i.e. research, transplant, ventricular assist device, complex cardiac, complex medical). Determines principle diagnosis and reason for admission on all cases. *Performs complex abstraction of cases by completing discharge, transfer, and billing status, and synthesizes consultation information from multiple sources on case records. *Reviews all provider documentation in the health information record so that all significant diagnoses and procedures may be captured for reimbursement, severity and data purposes. *Applies Medical Severity Diagnosis Related Groups (MS-DRGs) and Ambulatory Patient Categories (APCs) in order to code charts for accurate hospital bill preparation. *Reviews MS-DRG information from nursing worksheets for accuracy. Forwards inaccurate information to appropriate leader as needed. *Compiles data for Center for Medicare Services (CMS) reporting of clinical indicators. *Maintains the confidentiality of patient records. *Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association and adheres to official coding guidelines. *Practices ethical judgment in assigning and sequencing codes for proper insurance reimbursement. *Reports any perceived non-compliant practices to the coding leader or compliance officer. --- Applies ICD-9-CM codes to complex charts.
