SPECIFICATIONS MANAGER

Our client is a leading international manufacturer of convenience foods.Due to planned expansion they now seek a Specifications Manager for their site in Hull.

Job Purpose: 
To effectively lead and manage the internal and external specifications process. 

Key Responsibilities:
• Owns training and development of colleagues in the department in order to enable progression; to resource growth; or to replace current roles. (Succession Planning).
• Ensure that the appropriate team structure is in place for the department, resourced by the right people who reflect the company values and the needs of the business.
• Creates and promotes an environment where individuals feel able to continually challenge the status quo, embrace change consistent with the company values and encouraged to make decisions in driving continuous improvement.
• Build strong relationships with customers ensuring queries are dealt with effectively
• Build strong relationships with internal departments (NPD, Commercial, Factory) ensuring critical paths are realistic and adhered to, and queries are dealt with effectively.
• Provides advice on all current food legislation requirements and maintains up to date knowledge of Food Law.

• Manage the preparation and process of all specifications internal and external, ensuring they comply with all customer, business and legal requirements.  Liaise with Customers Technologists as required and issue to deadline
• Manage the team to ensure the entire process is captured and understood from factory trial to launch of products.
• Manage the specification team to ensure ‘right first time’ specifications are submitted to the customer and factory.
• Monitor the use an update of internal specification department trackers and issue logs ensuring that they are translated and used at all levels.
• To manage the preparation of Bill Of Materials using the JBA system.
• Ensure Concept to Launch process elements are managed, delivered and critical path met in full.  Review and agree pack copy as part of the Concept to Launch Process
• All artwork and packaging meet external product specifications and comply with labelling legislation.

• Work with the Raw Material Administrator and Technical Systems to ensure raw material specifications are uploaded in to Creations in a timely fashion to allow generation of finished product specifications using the system
• To undertake any other reasonable duties as required
• To ensure that a safe working environment exists and that as a minimum the department meets the standards set out in the SHE Policy and by the Site Health Safety Manager.

Training and Experience:
Minimum of 5 years experience within a food manufacturing environment with direct QA/Technical function involvement
Production of retailer specifications.
Working knowledge of specification systems (Find, Inspire, TTL and Aspect)
Minimum of intermediate Food Hygiene
Minimum of intermediate HACCP
Strong literacy, numerical and IT skills
Good leadership ability
Knowledge of Good Hygiene Practises
Education and Qualifications:
Degree / HND or equivalent
Previous knowledge or experience of food manufacture ideally with chilled foods experience
Decision Making Authority / Job Dimensions
Authority to make decisions based on sound advice and within the constraints of food safety, customer standards, Codes of Practice and legislation with regards to signing of all external specifications and artwork
Direct staff management
