Assist in maintaining the department's efficient operation. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: * Reports to Site Leadership (inpatient or outpatient), who in turn reports to the Regional Director, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Services. * No subordinates formally report to this position. May provide work direction and guidance to Rehabilitation Aides. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Evaluates and treats patients with various speech, language, voice and swallowing disorders under the prescription of a physician. * Participates in performance improvement activities designed to identify and resolve problems affecting patient care outcome and to improve quality of care. * Plans for and completes patient discharge including providing written home programs, patient/family teaching, referral for community services and ordering equipment. * Completes all required documentation following department policy, including patient progress notes, team conference reports, and discharge summaries as appropriate, to record patient care and progress of each patient assigned as well as daily statistics, billing, and scheduling. * Communicates verbally and in writing with peers, patients, families, physicians, case managers, and all other personnel. * Applies insurance guidelines regarding authorization and number of visits. * Pursues professional educational growth through participation in continuing education courses, department inservices, and reading professional literature. * Presents inservices to staff on knowledge gained from courses attended and other resources. * Maintains knowledge of educational programs being presented to the community. * Participates in Speech Pathology student orientation. * Orients new staff to clinical and department policies as requested. * Participates in the evaluation process of co-workers by providing verbal or written feedback as requested. * Responsible for cleans up after patient treatment, putting away equipment, and keeping area neat and orderly. Assists with general clinic cleaning as necessary. * Willingly assists site leadership with any assigned tasks as requested. * Manages assigned caseload, including scheduling and informing site leadership of coverage needs and ability to cover the same; assists with coverage based on department and regional needs. * Participates in weekend/holiday, site, and late rotations as determined by schedule or site leadership. * Meets or exceeds the productivity level established for the department. * Promotes a positive team environment in the workplace and adheres to Service Management Standards. * Attends department meetings and site and department in-services. * Completes all mandatory annual in-service/testing required by the site. * Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique. * The Speech Pathologist I must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards appropriate to the individual Speech Pathologist I. SPECIALIZED KNOW-HOW REQUIREMENTS: * Master's Degree in Speech/Language Pathology. * Must maintain current licensure in the State of Wisconsin to practice Speech/Language Pathology. * Good human relations, organization, problem solving, and decision-making skills. * Must obtain CPR certification within three months of hire. MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Must be able to: -lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist. -lift up to 10 lbs. from waist to overhead. -lift and carry up to 40 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance. * Must be able to: -push/pull with 30 lbs. of force. -perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present * Position requires repetitive use of hands: -Simple grasping - 5-15 lbs. - 20% of the workday. -Pushing/pulling - up to 75-100 lbs. - 10% of the day. -Fine manipulation of hands during massages and joint mobilization. * Must have functional use of senses to allow for effective communication. * Potential for exposure to blood and body fluids through patient contact and therefore must have ability to wear protective clothing as needed. * Position may require travel to other clinics, and therefore there is exposure to road and weather hazards. * Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, and squat throughout the workday. * Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
