SPEECHWRITER/EDITOR recruitment

Under the supervision of the Director of Cabinet, the Speechwriter/Editor will write and elaborate clear, well-argued, well-researched speeches and statements, opinion editorials and other materials, for the President and his team. The successful candidate will translate politically sensitive and complex economic materials into clear, understandable language and to recreate the President's voice and ideas.

Under the general supervision of the Director, Office of the President, the incumbent will perform two sets of duties:

On the editorial front, (s)he will write speeches presentations for internal and external audiences, and develop other communications products such as articles and op-eds. (S)he will write concise, clear, persuasive, well-written, and factually correct speeches that fit with the speaker's style. (S)he will write an outline of arguments for each speech/statement/article, as well as conduct research and ensure that all data are reliably and properly sourced. The successful candidate will write and revise written products in consultation with colleagues. Finally, she will liaise closely with key staff in order to obtain content and background

On the influence front: the incumbent will play an important behind-the-scenes role and build and maintain a network of contacts. (S)he will liaise closely with key staff in order to obtain content and background and work closely with other communications professionals. In addition, she will provide personal communication and speech advice to senior managers.

Who we are looking for

You hold at least a Master's degree or its equivalent in Communication, Languages and Linguistics, International Relations or related fields. Ideally, you have spent a minimum of eight years of relevant professional experience in high-level writing tasks including speeches, editorials and internal external publications. You are able to write fully-scripted speeches featuring complex topics for a variety of audiences and you have a passion for promoting economic and social development in Africa;
Your personal features include: Excellent analytical, organizational, coordination and communication skills. You have the ability to work methodically, accurately and to meet deadlines. You are a self-motivated and persuasive team player, able to work independently or within teams. You have the ability to work under pressure in the dynamic, international setting;
Your written and verbal communication skills in English and/or French are excellent, and you have a good command of the other language. You master Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint.
