We are seeking an uncommon professional to join our team as a Business Architect.

This position will operate largely independently in meeting defined objectives and goals. This position is responsible for possessing and continuing to develop deep subject matter expertise and developing direction for technology with strategic alignment to the needs of the Enterprise. This position works in conjunction with the Chief Enterprise Architect and other IT Officers to propose and set Enterprise wide technology architecture direction within their domain of expertise.

This position will define architecture roadmaps, standards and procedures which align closely with business strategy and provide the most effective combination of business fit, strategic and innovative evolution of technology, business risk and total cost of ownership of solutions. This position will operate with a vision and perspective of technology evolution that is 3-7 years out.

This position is responsible for communicating to the entire enterprise key decisions and direction related to Enterprise Architecture

This person will develop manage budgets, plans, and resources to provide strategic direction on Enterprise wide technology.

This position leads and influences diverse teams; senior management, frontline managers and/or staff of multiple IT disciplines across the enterprise. Effectively partners with business stakeholders for their particular architecture domain across the entire organization and the rest of IT on execution of strategic architecture direction based on business needs and strategy as well at ability to drive benefit attainment and technology total cost of ownership control.

Engages in managing relationships with key vendors to understand the market and direction of technology. Engages in prioritization and IT alignment of Enterprise Architecture activities with the business to drive roadmaps for the evolution of the technology delivery of the enterprise.

This position is responsible for the delivery of strategic technology decisions and direction impacting decisions which range in impact from several hundred thousand to several million dollars.

Business Architects look at the Enterprise to:


Job Purpose:

Understand business objectives, proposed business process changes, and the solution portfolio in order to identify solution alternatives that optimize IT investments, both strategic and tactical.

Facilitate key, high level architectural decisions that address business application and information domains at an enterprise, cross domain level.

Provide definition and illustration of technology solution(s) in the context of the business capabilities to be supported or enabled.

Work with key stakeholders and develop alternative solution approaches and recommendations to best meet the overall business and enterprise objectives.


Job Responsibilities

Long-term technology planning: 70 -80%

1) Ensure planned IT delivery activities are in alignment with long-term technology footprint, business strategy and capabilities needs and effective total cost of ownership for the business. Continuously search the horizon for technology opportunities in alignment with business strategy and needs. Continuously expand breadth and depth of technology expertise to include applied research.

Technology Effectiveness confirmation and execution 10 - 15%

1) Oversee one or many project teams as needed to support applied research, proof of concepts or business prototypes of new and emerging technology

Enterprise Level People Leadership and Influence: 10- 15%

1) Responsible for the consistent delivery of HR processes: recruiting, hiring, training, career development, performance management, etc. through team relationships and memberships if not through direct reporting relationships.

2) Communicate and reinforce CUNA Mutual Group/IT/enterprise architecture team goals, policies and procedures to all of IT as appropriate.

3) Coach/mentor members of IT as necessary. Align and influence team to best take advantage of their strengths and to grow/enterprise architecture skills and perspective.

4) Serve as an evangelist of the Enterprise Architecture principles and direction.


Job Requirements

1. College degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent trade-off in related professional work experience.

2. Ten years data processing experience with progression through technical and analyst, or equivalent, levels to strategy

leadership. This includes five years experience in the direction of technology evolution and delivery and five years of

technical leadership responsibilities within one of the following domains: Security, Infrastructure Technology, Application

Development and Delivery or Data Design and Management


Job Specific Requirements:

3. Minimum of 5 years of project management experience of larger scale, complex, higher risk, high visibility projects.

4. Significant experience in achieving positive results among staff at all levels of the organization through demonstrated ability in developing consultative relationships.

5. Demonstrated success working collaboratively with individuals and teams across the company, specifically executives and key stakeholders, utilizing influence, persuasion, leadership, negotiation and group facilitation skills.

6. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with Business and IT management on business matters blending technical and non-technical perspectives and discuss complex concepts in simple terms.

7. Demonstrated ability to grasp “big picture” with ability to roadmap

8. Demonstrated ability to mitigate risks proactively and resolve issues.

9. Ability to start from a blank page without guidance (self directed)

10.Prior experience in insurance industry.
