D H Distributing, is a national distributor for consumer electronics, housewares and sporting goods. We are proud to be a 93 yr old, employee owned business, located in Harrisburg, PA. We have an immediate need in our Purchasing Department for a buyer/product manager for the sporting goods line.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Purchase all incoming merchandise.
· Negotiate buy in opportunities, terms and agreements.
· Maintain appropriate inventory levels in all warehouse locations.
- Maintain stable supply, take necessary actions to prevent stock out or expedite deliveries. This includes to anticipate demand and working with sales.
- Place, reschedule or cancel orders.
- Issue stocking and special purchase orders as required and ensure correctness on orders for all branches.
- Negotiate better pricing, freight terms and return material terms.
- Manage supplier price, delivery and quality expectations and escalate when appropriate.
- Oversee the buy-to-pay process that also includes assisting accounts payable in troubleshooting payment of invoices. Enforce suppliers’ compliance with invoicing policies and payment terms.
- Analyze sales results on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis.
- Interact with suppliers with regard to assortment selection and promotion activities.
- Help to manage the inventory by doing stock balances, transfers, ordering, etc.
- Must adhere to company policies, including attendance.
- Do daily price drops, programs, special orders, etc.
- Interact with inside and outside sales by answering questions/ problems via phone and/or e-mail.
- Interact with vendors via phone or e-mail.
- Interact with the warehouses and vendors about shipping problems, overages, etc.
- Track open orders.
- Interact with marketing to produce monthly flyers by giving product feedback, promos, pricing, etc.
- Prioritize and multi-task in all aspects of your day.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
- Keeps work area neat, clean and hazard free.
- Must work in other areas, as needed for cross training and/or workload.
- Other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
· This position has no supervisory responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
· Previous experience as a merchandise buyer, preferably in the sporting goods field.
- Fulltime position (40 hours a week), Overtime, Weekends, Holidays, as required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence and/or complete employment forms.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to add subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Post hire certifications may be required to gain knowledge needed to stay current in field.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach with arms, talk and hear. The employee will frequently be required to stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
