Harleysville Insurance is a leading super-regional provider of insurance products and services offering a full portfolio of commercial lines, personal lines, life, and flood insurance products. Harleysville has an excellent opportunity for a Cognos Developer to join our team which is located at our Home Office in Harleysville PA.
The individual in this role will be responsible for end user support, consultation, and administration for Cognos Version 8, report generation and maintenance, business community response and communication, and appropriate solutions design. The position is within our Business Intelligence Team, which is responsible for designing and building data and reporting solutions for various internal departments here at Harleysville Insurance. Cognos 8 and SQL Server are the main tools, so an excellent working knowledge of these tools is a requirement. Cognos 10 will be used in the future, so knowledge of this version would be helpful.
Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
*Development Maintenance of Cognos reporting, querying analysis solutions
*Work closely with BI Manager, Data Architect, DBA, and/or ETL developers to build, optimize and support business facing data repositories and data delivery mechanisms (ie: summary tables, views, etc.)
*Develop subject matter expertise in data subject areas
*Organize and maintain documentation of procedures used throughout the system
*Review standards periodically, keeping current with technical changes and new procedures
*Create detailed program definitions and procedures
*Research project requests to further define specifications and ensure desired outcome
*Resolve system test and production problems (including occurrences after normal working hours). This should include any necessary documentation or communication of information to customers affected.
*Make recommendations to manager regarding cost containment in developing system changes or new methods
*Assist with the design of new systems and/or enhancements to existing systems based upon user and/or team recommendations
*Provide programming/system guidance and support to all team members
