SQL Server Database Analyst
Position Description:
Positions in this function design, implement and maintain all functions of database systems, including access, methods and time, device allocations, validation checks, organization, security, documentation, and statistical methodology. Monitors overall standards and procedures, assists in integrating various systems. Consults with users, determine requirements and recommends database establishment and utilization.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide primary SQL Server DBA support for UnitedHealth Group SQL Server databases and database environments.
- Ensure a stable, reliable, available and secure SQL Server database environment.
- Implement and monitor database functionality to ensure stable environments.
- Provide on-call DBA support to answer database related production incidents, restore service as quickly as possible and provide problem resolution as necessary.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and ability to perform all of the basic skills of database administration.
- Provide standardization and consistency across SQL Server environments, including documentation of any deviations from the standards by upholding SQL-Server Team standards for operations within the SQL-Server environment.
- Uphold UHG enterprise policy guidelines.
- Identify resolutions to user problems and concerns associated with database server equipment (hardware and software).
- Identify potential service-level problems before they occur.
- Generally work is self-directed and not prescribed.
- Works with less structured, more complex issues.
- Serves as a resource to others.

Requirements:
- 3+ years experience working with SQL Server 2005 and 2008, including 2008 R2, in a production support DBA role.
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience with SQL Server monitoring, maintenance and support.
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience with database backups and restores, including: backup strategies for disaster recovery, native backups and backup up to tape/virtual tape systems.
- 3+ years detailed knowledge of the Windows Server platform.
- Bachelor's degree or HS diploma/GED with 5+ years of equivalent experience.
Assets:
- Experience with SQL Server 2000
- Proven systems tuning experience: hardware, software, database, etc.
- Experience with High Availability (HA) clustering (Windows clustering and/or Veritas clustering), including: support, installation and configuration.
- A background with corporate job schedulers (i.e., CA's AutoSys, IBM TWS).
- Experience with server optimization and consolidation.
- Experience with third-party monitoring tools and third-party backup tools.
- Experience with a systems development or project methodology.
- Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) certification.
- Experience working with remote teams.
