Title: Database Architect

Job Description

As an Oracle/SQL Server Database Architect, you will be responsible for leveraging your senior level database management skills to improve efficiencies within the Database Administration team. As a member of the DBA team, you will be expected to provide professional and quality service.

The scope of responsibilities

• Database Software install :

o Install Major release

o Dot release

o Bug fixes.

• Database creation and upgrades :

o Create shell database

o Upgrade existing databases

• 24 x 7 Production Support

• On Call support

• Backup and Recovery using Oracle RMAN

• Database monitoring using BMC Patrol

• Database job scheduling using BMC Control-M.

• Providing proactive monitoring, tuning and support of databases.

• Support of Standby databases.

o Ensuring SLAs are met.

o Building/rebuilding as necessary.

• Strong performance tuning skills

o Ability to identify and adjust database parameters to improve database performance.

o Ability to identify and provide solutions for inefficient SQL.

o Ability to determine processes with longest waits using PERFSTATS then identify and implement performance improvement plan.

• Strong troubleshooting skills.

o Ability to assist Application team with database support, including assisting with identifying problem SQL statements and providing tuning assistance.

o Collaborate with various IT teams to determine root causes and provide proper solutions.

o Review failed and missing scheduled Database jobs and resolve, identifying the root cause of the issues in a proactive manner.

• Develop Wintel (bat), AIX (shell) and SQL scripts to support database processes.

• You will work with various IT Infrastructure teams and Management in developing Infrastructure strategies using best practices. You will have responsibilities for developing project Work Plans, coordinating resources and the successful execution and implementation of Database related projects. You will identify, document and implement improvements in processes and database standards. You will provide on call support on a rotating basis.

• You will provide leadership and mentoring to peers within the IT organization.

Required Job Qualifications

• A minimum of 10 years experience with Oracle

• A minimum of 5 years experience developing project Work Plans

• A minimum of 5 years experience leading database project efforts

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• In depth knowledge and skills with the following

o Oracle 10g and 11g SQL Server 2008

o RMAN

 Creation of RMAN database

 Software Upgrade of RMAN Database

o PERFSTATS

o SQL*Plus

o Writing, debugging and tuning SQL statements

o Export/Import

o Data Pump 10g/11g

o Unix Shell scripting

o Oracle SQL Developer, Toad or SQL Navigator

• In depth experience with development and deployment of backup/recovery strategies to support Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity (log shipping, mirroring, and/or replication)

• A demonstrated focus on customer satisfaction

• Bachelor’s in Computer Science or equivalent discipline
