Sybase and SQL Server DBA (hybrid)
Position Purpose: This position is part of the team responsible for the day to day support of the database systems administration function.
Key Accountabilities:
- Issue and problem management.
- Monitoring performance and capacity of systems and make recommendations where appropriate.
- Provide data design and query expertise to development teams.
- Provide project resourcing.
- Interface with application support staff on production problems.
- Monitor and maintain batch processing operations.
- Manage the release of software into the production environement.
- Maintain and report on patch levels across the environemt.
- Provide out-of-hours cover for production systems.
- Commission new systems.
- Maintain standard procedures and supporting documentation.
- Liaise with global database support teams.
Knowledge and Experience:
- High level of OLTP an OLAP/DSS database administration expertise.
- Supporting 24x7 mission critical database systems.
- Delivery of mid/large scale database projects.
- Degree educated - would be an asset
- Investment banking experience - would be an asset
Skills and Competencies:
- Sybase ASE 12.5.x, 15.x, IQ and RepServer
- MS SQL Server 2000, 2005 2008
- web programming (Java,PHP, Tomcat or .NET)
- T-SQL, ANSI SQL
- Scripting (batch, ksh and perl)
- UNIX (Solaris), Linux and Windows
