Position Overview
We are looking for a senior research analyst to make a significant contribution to the firm's quantitative active equity research process. The ideal candidate will have excellent analytic and quantitative skills as demonstrated by significant prior research experience, particularly in the area of quantitative stock selection. The position will be located in San Francisco. The individual will be expected to work in close collaboration with research analysts based in both the San Francisco and Boston office.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Developing and enhancing quantitative stock selection model, which includes research of alpha and risk factors, model back-testing, portfolio construction, and risk/return attribution analysis.
- Contribute to idea generation and the setting of the group's research priorities.
- Presenting research to internal and external clients as appropriate.
- Writing code to translate ideas into signals.
- The ideal candidate will be a hands-on individual with strong programming skills and capable of producing independent research within a team environment.
Qualifications
- Significant experience (3+ years) in the area of quantitative stock selection in a buy or sell side firm.
- Candidates with advanced degrees (Ph.D/Masters) from a top institution in a field such as economics, finance, statistics, operations research or computer science are strongly preferred.
- Proven experience in performing empirical research, including building cross sectional and time series econometric models.
- A background in accounting and financial statement analysis is preferred.
- Strong programming skills, preferably in SAS and SQL.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- A strong team player, with the ability to work independently and excel in a self-starting environment.
