This position will be responsible for all aspects of aftermarket engineering and OE service engineering for axles, and therefore may involve some product as well as application engineering tasks.
Primary Duties:
• Involved in all aspects of product development, from concept initiation through manufacturing optimization.
• Coordinates programs and assignments with Aftermarket Business Development, Product Planning, Purchasing, as well as Product and Applications Engineering and test facilities.
• Must be able to do when necessarily, but also leverage the Dana engineering team to the full extent possible, rather than duplicate knowledge and effort
• Proposes and critiques design concepts.
• Develops Engineering Statement of Requirements for sourced programs.
• Participates in cross functional supplier review meetings.
• Assesses the engineering capabilities of potential suppliers.
• Reviews the suppliers’ validations results or plans, and develops additional test requirements, as needed.
• Actively participates in the overall assessment of potential suppliers.
• Develop product design proposals and test requirements.
• Responsible for organizing test and development programs, developing and writing test procedures, writing test requests, and analyzing test data.
• Prepare and present test reports confirming requirements have been met.
• Lead all product development and validation activities including: DFMEA, design reviews, drawing and model creation (CAD), finite element analysis (FEA), prototype builds, DV/PV testing, NVH verification, design for manufacturing, and key supplier development.
• Support Advanced Program Quality Planning (APQP) activities.
• Insure design reviews are completed as planned in order to support a gated program management process.
• Implements engineering changes to improve existing designs.
• Interface with support personnel responsible for product design, test, development, inspection, and manufacture.
• Responsible for utilizing the resources of the various support groups to provide an optimized design which can be manufactured economically and without difficulty.
• Analyze and process engineering deviations and change requests.
• Prepare and conduct technical presentations.
• Responsible for tracking each project/product to ensure timely completion of engineering deliverables.
• Actively promotes the concepts of lean and fast.
Qualifications Desired:
• Four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) preferred. Consideration may be given to candidates with other engineering degrees such as manufacturing, industrial or aeronautical with strong experience in product design.
• A minimum of five years experience in design or manufacture of driveshaft components and assemblies or automotive industry.
• Excellent mechanical aptitude, along with strong analytical capability.
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills to work with people at all levels within Dana in a professional manner.
• Must have strong project management/follow-up skills in order to organize multiple responsibilities and meet multiple deadlines.
• Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office and knowledge of Lotus notes.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
• Must be self-directed and motivated individual who is willing to accept responsibility.
• Willing and able to work excess hours when necessary.
• Must be able and willing to travel domestically and internationally
