JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, develop, and implement customer applications or enhancements including researching and analyzing customer needs, modifying existing programs, assisting in the conversion of operating systems, and preparing appropriate documentation in accordance with established methods and procedures.
- Establish and maintain data tables; update and interpret data for use in report generation; ensure the accuracy and integrity of data used by customers.
- Extract data from centralized applications and download information from a variety of sources including the internet for analysis and report preparation.
- Collaborate with IT specialists, administrators, and unit heads to identify information needs and determine appropriate applications to support those needs; write and modify existing programs for input and retrieval of data.
- Provide first-tier support for assigned area by responding to questions regarding desktop applications and common network and hardware issues; resolve the majority of problems or coordinate the solution with technical staff.
- Provide specialized training for assigned area on common desktop applications and/or specific applications that are unique to the area; assist in the development and maintenance of training materials.
- May serve as a system administrator for a small Local Area Network or as a backup for the system administrator for the area.
- Assist in special projects relating to the conversion of applications or technology; coordinate work with IT professionals responsible for the project.
- Administer University software sales to students, faculty and staff while adhering to contractual obligations, such as usage policies, held with vendors. This includes the processing of new orders, order refunds and exchanges, follow up on existing orders, and processing money order payments through Cashiers.
- Provide leadership and work direction to student assistants responsible for assisting with the above duties.
- Serve as subject matter expert and is fully responsible for maintaining departmental e-commerce storefront which includes planning design and developing integration of storefront and providing analyses, the addition and formatting of new product and removal of old product content, and storefront database and CashNet account administration.
- Extract information from databases for departmental reporting. Responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the information. Maintain content of internal departmental web pages.
- Maintain departmental inventories for software products sold through the Software Clearinghouse. This includes the tracking of software sold through the department using electronic spreadsheets. Responsible for all software ordering, invoicing, and payments from contracted software resellers and account reconciliation. Responsible for software duplication of all volume licensed product, which are not purchased individually from resellers.
- Provide tier one and occasionally tier two customer support for all software distributed including but not limited to sales, installation, usage, and troubleshooting. Coordinate problem resolutions with internal IT staff, software vendors, and the customer. Assist customers with software installations, annual renewals, etc. Direct work efforts of student assistants responsible for assisting with the above duties.
- Key team member on large departmental projects related to departmental systems, such as the storefront replacement. Lead small to medium projects related to software applications and software distribution. Develops and implements project plans and coordinates project and work efforts with other IT Staff. Research potential software purchases, analyze functionality, system requirements, and ease of implementation to ascertain whether software meets customer needs/requests.
- Test all new software releases before distribution. Maintain software vendor access sites for software downloads and installation codes. Package volume licensed software for media duplication and distribution. Develop any associated documentation, instructional or otherwise, required for distribution. Coordinate installation issues with internal IT staff and software vendors.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Basic knowledge and experience with computer systems, applications programming, and report generation.
- Knowledge of the basic business practices and information requirements of assigned area.
- Skill in solving problems and generating and analyzing data.
- Ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical staff to interpret issues and translate them into workable solutions.
- Proficiency in the use of common desktop software and applications programming languages typically acquired through formal education or equivalent experience in computer science.
- Demonstrated ability to understand specialized application requirements, maintain accurate and complete records, and generate standard and special reports from specialized databases.
- This is the specialist level where incumbents provide highly specialized support for complex and specialized applications used by their assigned customers.
- Incumbents collect information from a variety of sources including their assigned system, centralized applications, and the internet, and organize that information into reports for review by administrators or customers.
- They are also a key resource for their area in determining IT needs for the future and provide detailed information on applications and/or software under consideration.
- Incumbents at this level may also serve as a part-time system administrator for their area's LAN, answering inquiries, resolving problems, and providing technical and functional assistance for their customers. Incumbents at this level often provide work direction for a small group (less than 5) of technical staff which may include outside contractors and/or students.
- Extensive knowledge of the Microsoft Office product suite to maintain departmental inventories and prepare department reporting,
- Basic knowledge of SQL database management. Must be able to extract and interpret information contained.
- Good troubleshooting skills utilized not only in the support of the software products sold, but also in development and testing of the department's e-commerce site, including the testing of site authentication.
- Knowledge of University processes and business systems, including Banner and CashNet, required for software purchasing and maintaining vendor accounts.
- Familiarity with a broad range of academic software applications such as SPSS, SAS ESRI, Oracle, etc.
- Skill is required to diagnosis operational and business issues, analyze and interpret data, plan the tasks required to resolve the problem and execute the resolution.
- Extensive understanding of hardware requirements is required to recommend appropriate software and troubleshoot software issues.
- Comprehensive desktop support knowledge.
- Ability to provide tier one and occasionally tier two technical support for all software titles sold and distributed by the Software Clearinghouse.
- Basic knowledge of the Adobe Acrobat, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop for creation and maintenance of web pages, graphic layout and design for promotional materials.
- Possess considerable project management skills.
- Considerable business management experience.
- Skill in solving complex analytical problems. Ability tot take a complex problem and break it down into logical parts.
- Ability to work effectively with customers, interpreting their issues and translating them into workable solutions.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
