Sr. Applications Engineer - OTN - High Speed Transceiver IC's - Fiber Optic

We are a Pre-IPO IC Startup that develops IC's for high-speed optical networks. Because of the tremendous growth that we are experiencing, we have an immediate opening for a Sr. Applications Engineer for our Silicon Valley based office.

In this role, you will report to the Director of Applications Engineering, and be responsible for working with our customers to develop and implement solutions that integrate our transceivers in to customer products. You will become an expert in 40G and 100G fiber optic transceiver ICs, and provide pre-sales and post-sales support for these devices.

What you need for this position:

- Bachelors degree required, Masters preferred
- 5+ years of experience with high-speed digital and mixed-signal electronics, and DSP
- Experience in optical communications for enterprise or telecommunications networks
- Previous experience with OTN (G.709), and SFI 5.1
- Experience in Applications Engineering and working directly with the customer to solve problems
- Experience in hardware/firmware bringup, including the use of graphical user interfaces and scripts for hardware control and automation.
- Experience in register level programming of complex hardware devices and debugging complex hardware problems.
- Experience with bench level testing using equipment such as digital oscilloscopes, digital communications analyzers, bit-error-rate testers, signal generators, framers and FEC encoders, optical and RF spectrum analyzers, fiber optic equipment, and
test/evaluation boards

Pluses to have:

- SONET/SDH
- Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gbe (IEEE 802.3)
- Low level driver development in C, C++, or assembly
- RTL or board level experience

What you'll be doing:

- Work with with sales, product engineering, systems engineering, and customer personnel to bring up new transceiver platforms at customer sites
- Troubleshoot customer prototypes, and develop solutions for customer applications.
- Integrate, test, and debug hardware using bench top setups in laboratories and at customer sites to develop scripts that optimize performance.
- Work closely with customers to ensure successful schematic and layout design
- Provide pre-sales and post-sales support, and customer visits to national and world-wide customer sites.
