Sr Assistant Dean

Responsibilities

The Senior Assistant Dean functions in a leadership position, overseeing all academic, faculty administrative and operational aspects of a portfolio of programs for NU Global including curriculum and instruction, faculty recruitment and development, student recruitment and learning, program enhancement, budget management, student conduct and safety concerns, and execution of strategic plans. Desired characteristics include: exceptional project management skills, including demonstrated skills in managing faculty, personnel, budgets, and instructional resources within an education environment; an appreciation and commitment to delivering quality education and high levels of service to students; a commitment to shared governance and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty; willingness to take initiative in solving complex problems; an understanding of innovative instructional and course delivery technologies; and an understanding of international student recruitment and marketing. Essential functions include:

- Providing leadership and vision for Boston-based programs, NU Global and CPS,
- Building a vibrant faculty culture focused on accountability, academic rigor and innovation in a shared governance environment,
- Monitoring Boston-based program administration and operations,
- Overseeing the development and execution of cutting edge student recruitment and retention strategies.
- Implementing the philosophy and policies of NU Global and ensuring that programs achieve NU Globals mission, vision and goals,
- Supporting strategic planning efforts and annual planning for NU Global and Boston Based programs,
- Working with program staff to foster compliance of action plans that support the overall strategic plans of the unit,
- Building a strong administrative staff focused on outstanding customer service, efficient operations and commitment to excellence,
- Implementing regular review and revision of courses of study, implementing state/federal regulations, course classification, methods of instruction and other required information,
- Monitoring the implementation of the marketing strategy for programs in conjunction with the Senior Associate Deans Office, marketing department, and senior management team,
- Ensuring consistency of learning outcomes across all taught courses,
- Providing support for faculty to maintain a dynamic standardized curriculum that is responsive to continual assessment and refinement, current innovation and evolving student needs,
- Developing and documenting policies designed to support institutional goals and student success
- Maintaining and monitoring relationship with partner agencies,
- Building and maintaining strong partnerships and collaborations with local institutions, agencies, and internal departments,
- Overseeing budget activities,
- Ensuring compliance with employment laws and practices in the hiring of faculty and personnel and managing evaluation of instructors,
- Coordinating the supervision and evaluation of administrative staff, and
- Drawing upon a broad understanding of best practices of domestic and international English Language Learner programs with the goal of continual program improvement

Qualifications

Provide the minimum level of qualifications required for an employee to succeed in this specific job.

- Ph.D. or other terminal degree in related field from an accredited university (ABD and significant experience may be considered).
- A minimum of 7 years of administrative experience with increasing responsibilities in a large, complex unit within a higher education institution.
- At least two years in a senior level position within corporate or University higher education.
- Effective administrative, supervisory, and organizational skills
- Project and time management, including superior communication, skills at all levels.

- Ability to direct and integrate all aspects of a project or program, ensuring that work progresses toward achieving goals and objectives on time and on budget.
- Demonstrated leadership and ability to facilitate and implement change
- Proven track record of effective and results driven problem solving and decision-making.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate to diverse constituencies.
- Highly effective and organized presenter and meeting facilitator.
- Strong evidence of having worked successfully with full-time and adjunct faculty.
- Experience living, traveling, or working abroad necessary.
- Understanding of, and ability to use technologies, systems, and tools common in higher education (e.g. Apply Yourself, Banner, Salesforce, Social Media, Content Management Systems etc.).
- Deep understanding of campus climate within higher education and how to take actions that satisfy diverse interests while achieving programmatic and unit goals.
- Strong ability to build and maintain teams; excellent team-member whether as lead or member.
- Significant experience in ESL/EFL environments.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity in the work environment.
