- Project Management, Book Design, and Desktop Publishing for various imprints.
- Responsible for all stages of interior book design for assigned titles from manuscript to bound books for books of all levels of complexity—one to four color projects with a focus on complicated four color non-fiction titles.
- Prepare sample pages and comp specifications.
- Design and prepare text interior, insert, and binding mechanicals for the manufacturing at the Printer, as applicable.
- Handle design aspects of Paperback Conversions.
- Learn to create eBooks.
- Archive final desktop files to DAM.
- Check color proofs and T-Prints as well as various stages of printing proofs through bound book.
- Keep Design Manager informed of projects; update status report routinely.
- Keep book projects on timely schedule to maintain publication schedule. Working within tight deadlines is a key responsibility due to the fast pace schedules of the imprints.
Qualifications:
- Must possess 5 years of prior relevant work experience.
- Solid desktop publishing experience working with InDesign and, Photoshop and Illustrator on one-color through four-color book production. Knowledge of Quark is helpful.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Detail-oriented, well-organized and able to set priorities under pressure a must.
- Ability to handle multiple complex titles at various stages of production and must work well within a group dynamic.
- Strong project management skills a plus.
- Knowledge of ebooks and new technologies is a plus.
