The Director/Sr. Director of Product/Planning has direct responsibility for the Ophthalmic, Sun and Accessories strategy, assortments and inventory plans in Target as well as the Lens and Contact Lens strategies for the brand. This position ensure sales and profits are maximized in a guest centric manner through strategic management of product mix and assortment principles. Coaching and developing the members of the product and planning team are a must.
The ideal candidate will be able to create e strong product and planning “high” strategy while achieving financial objectives of each department (sales, inventor turn, mark-up) through compelling and complex business plans that align with company strategies.
MAJOR DUTIES RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead development of strategies and plans that will increase usage margins and sales of sun, ophthalmic, lens, and contact lens product
- Key member of the Target Optical Corporate Leadership team
- Build a strong and productive relationship with Target Corporate
- Establish annual unit, sales, and profit plans
- Drive key initiatives and build the editorial plans that tell compelling stories around product which increase Guest awareness and passion for the category resulting in higher sales
- Lead development of private label products and branded products
- Analyze and manage unit sales, product costs, product mix, price points, etc. to ensure profit margins are maximized.
- Develop and implement life cycle strategies to ensure assortments remain fresh and markdown and job out costs are limited.
- Provide overall leadership to product teams; lead strategy development efforts, coach and develop associates.
- Build a strong relationship with Italian head-quarter counterparts in marketing, product and planning and become a key, authoritative stakeholder in the North American product and planning community within Luxottica.
- Analyze competitor situations and generate specific plans to overcome these and to achieve competitive advantage – make recommendations for new products to ensure Target is a leader in the market place
- Understand the optical marketplace and spot trends to ensure Target products remain current and relevant to consumers
- Lead the execution of product inventory strategies that will support the brand within planned inventory investment
- Ensure OTB, expenditures, in-store and DC product levels, COM, etc. goals are met
- Review financial analysis in order to create yearly strategic buying and inventory plans
- Lead member of the SAP/Oracle rollout team for Target

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Solid business experience in product development, retail buying planning, process improvement
- Significant achievement in process improvement, sales building, cost saving
EDUCATION
- B.S./B.A. required, MBA preferred

- 10 – 12 years of business experience
