Job Description
The Major OEM Planner role is fundamental to the organizations’ value proposition. Responsible for forecasting independent demand and order shipment requirements over the planning horizon, the Major OEM Planner links supply and demand for our aftermarket business enabling the supply chain to meet or exceed customer and OEM partner requirements. The position is responsible for the Supply Chain demand forecast and supply planning processes – both on an aggregated and item level basis. Effectiveness is measured by achieving and sustaining service level and inventory efficiency objectives established by the business. Success is achieved through effective teaming and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Key duties include the development and management of item-level forecasts within a DRP environment utilizing a combination of statistical and collaborative forecast methods. Heavy emphasis is placed on collaborative and consensus forecast approaches for selective material populations. Effectiveness is achieved by working directly with Marketing, the Customer and OEM to obtain and ensure that current accurate information is actively used for demand forecasts. Extended forecasts are generally submitted to the OEM partner who relies upon its stability and reliability for capacity planning.
The Major OEM Planner also oversees the supply planning process. In addition to participating with strategy and direction of replenishment and order service policy rules, this role tends to day-to-day activities including execution of purchase orders and change recommendations from an electronic work queue. Effective demand forecasting and supply order management result in successful service levels while supporting inventory efficiency targets and stable order profiles for the OEM.
This position requires being able to articulate the current situation as well as analyzing processes, exceptions, business trends, market feedback, and historical data to make strategy adjustments and continuous improvement recommendations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary duties the Major OEM Planner is responsible for are:
Demand Forecasting
• Manage demand forecasts and disposition actions from statistical modeling software.
• Develop and maintain the item-level forecast and supply plans, incorporating business intelligence and forecast information gathered from Sales, Marketing, Customers and the OEM.
• Coordinate cross-functional research activities to reconcile significant demand forecast variances and refine the model to reflect updated sales and marketing assumptions.
• Evaluate buying patterns of key customers and predict how the company should react to availability, demand shifts, and influencing events.
• Apply error analysis techniques to improve forecasting.
• Timely submittal of extended forecast data to OEM, working to achieve acceptable accuracy levels.
Supply Planning
• Schedule and order product to arrive in advance of demand while ensuring a profitable match between supply and demand.
• Team with the OEM to negotiate schedule loading and changes so as to promote level and achievable supply schedules.
• Work with the OEM to reduce order variability.
Collaboration
• Achieve consensus for operational demand forecasts by facilitating a collaborative planning process with Marketing.
• Prepare relevant information to facilitate research, discussion and decision process in the Sales Operations Planning process. Review sales plans, customer input and/or latest estimates of demand drivers.
• Facilitate and manage demand planning activity from customer meetings.
Excess and Obsolescence Management
• Periodic analysis of Excess Obsolescence data reports.
• Identify and coordinate internal and external actions to support the company’s objective.
• Develop annual Excess Obsolescence reserve forecast for budget requirements.
Analysis and Reporting
• Periodic performance (service level, forecast accuracy) reporting to include root-cause and corrective action plans for products and/or product lines performing below target.
• Maintain continuous improvement plans to include strategic actions to enhance inventory productivity while maintaining target product availability.
• Review historical sales trends, research demand drivers, prepare forecast data, develop statistical forecast models and evaluate forecast results.
• Participate in monthly Sales Operations (Stocking Council) meetings with executives as required to present issues and outline recommended courses of action.
• Prepare and present reports and analysis advising stakeholders of variances between existing forecasts, plans and actuals.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
• Business office environment, travel to OEM and customers as needed.
• Occasional evenings and weekends may be required to meet project deadlines.
Job Requirements:
EXPERIENCES/SKILLS/EDUCATION:
• BA/BS college degree or its equivalent, MBA preferred
• 5+ years Supply Chain Planning experience
• APICS or other forecasting certification preferred
• Experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning systems environment,
• Experience with demand planning, statistical software packages such as Servigistics, MCA, Manugistics, Gains.
• Experience with a continuous improvement program such and LeanSigma, certification preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office as position requires use of Excel to manage data sets and PowerPoint to prepare presentations
• Customer, market, industry knowledge and experience preferred
• Organizational, leadership, presentation, project management and time management skills
• Strong interpersonal skills are essential in understand and assimilate information from various sources that affect the forecast process including customer and OEM inputs.
• Communication, influencing and collaborative skills across various levels in the organization and external, simplifying complex topics and preparing quick pointed summaries for executives and stakeholders
• Consistently demonstrate the ability to act independently and prioritize work.
• Ability to prioritize in complex fast paced environment
