Sr. Manager, POS Software Development
PayPal is looking for a passionate and skilled leader to lead the development team working on product development for point of sale.
The leader will manage a product development team that will design and develop point of sale (POS) software solutions and improve on existing point of sale solutions. You will work with PayPal's Professional Services, Sales Engineering and Business Development teams to understand requirements for retail/point-of-sale merchant integrations and bring in that understanding to develop new, innovative product solutions.
The leader will also be responsible for providing live support of existing retail merchant integrations so that we are able to solve customer problems quickly.
The leader is well versed in the point of sale ecosystem, understands vendors in this space and has done software development or solution engineering in the point of sale ecosystem. The leader should have deep understanding of point of sale systems - preferably worked on and developed software for point of sale systems.
Responsibilities:
- Work in a fast-paced environment with business, product managers and designers to add new exciting features to the site or improve existing features.
- Lead, manage and motivate the development team to deliver on aggressive goals with timely delivery and good quality.
- Work with product management, QA and other development teams to manage dependencies and work towards a common goal.
- Be a mentor, technical leader and thought leader for a talented team of engineers, challenging them and helping them grow.
- Look for continuous improvement in productivity and quality.
- Track business impact of features on a regular basis, and rely on performance data to make informed decisions about possible changes or improvements.
- Bring innovation to the table that helps in improving user experience areas you are responsible for, sell your ideas and be part of the change.
Requirements:
- The ideal candidate will have deep technical experience with the architecture, building and deployment of high volume, real-time transactional systems.
- Possess detailed knowledge of software development best practices.
- 6+ years experience in leading engineering teams
- 10+ years hands-on experience in requirements/design analysis of scalable, distributed, multi-tiered, fault-tolerant global applications in Windows and UNIX environments.
- 3+ years experience in working on high-volume web / eCommerce capabilities
- Experience in building complex, scalable and high performance web applications.
- Familiarity with languages and technologies needed for web development, including Java, Javascript and CSS.
- Expertise required in using relational databases (prefer Oracle).
- Ability to partner with business units, product management and QA teams to deliver business results with agility and quality.
- Ability to motivate skilled software engineers and get the best out of them.
- Ability to hire people with right skills needed for the job.
- Exposure to payments or banking systems testing in a plus
Basic Qualifications:
- Proven results oriented person with a delivery focus.
- Good time management and ability to work on concurrent assignments with different priorities
- Ability to facilitate cross functional team communications
- Self-motivated and able to work independently, and be able to thrive in a multifaceted fast-pace, global development environment
- Outstanding presentation and written skills as well as the ability to deal effectively with both technologists and business representatives from a variety of backgrounds.
- Excellent project management and people management skills.
