Position Summary
This is a key leadership role within the Shared Services management team. The Operations Control Manager ensures the effective management of the shared services program through measurement, process improvement and controls; Measures the effectiveness and efficiency of the shared services program, communicates results and drivers, highlights areas of opportunity and weakness and works to improve operations and increase the added value of shared services to Staples.
Primary Responsibilities
- Measure the effectiveness and efficiency of operations.
- Work with the global/regional process owners to establish and maintain the Operational Dashboard or Balanced Scorecard across all process areas.
- Ensure metrics ultimately align with program objectives and measure financial as well as stakeholder perspectives (users, customers, suppliers, partners, etc.).
- Identify process improvement opportunities and work with area deployment leader and regional process delivery owners to sponsor projects.
- Work as a project team member or subject matter expert (SME) as appropriate.
- Assist the performance excellence (PE) deployment leader to manage a pipeline of project ideas.
- Lead small-scope process improvement projects using process excellence tools and methods.
- Ensure smooth operations by establishing controls and supporting processes.
- Contact and interface with internal organizations such as Internal Audit, Internal Controls (SOX team) to ensure proper controls are in place for the processes supported.
- For any external contracted processes, work with Legal, Contract Management, Sourcing, Supplier teams to ensure that appropriate documentation/contracts are in place and key terms are communicated to the stakeholders.
- Organize a Service Level Agreement (SLA) "issues and escalation" process.
- Project-manage the remediation of service failures between service delivery managers and stakeholders.
- Manage the communication and resolution process.
- Financial reporting and management for the shared services organization.
- Create periodic forecasts and budget for $24M in annual shared services spending to include labor modeling and external consultant spending.
- Work with appropriate financial process analysis organization to negotiate targets and communicate variances and budget issues.
- Assist the Global/Regional process delivery owners in creating business cases and internal sales support for adding incremental work to shared services; increase shared services penetration and compliance.
- Interface with the transition management team for support as needed for processes transitioning to the center.
- Ensure that business-as-usual is maintained during the transition and that changes are effectively integrated into the business.

- Proven ability to work effectively with various internal and external stakeholders.
- Change-management skills to interface with the transition/process excellence teams in driving special projects.
- Business process re-engineering skills.
- Financial management skills to ensure quality of financial reporting.
- Strategic thinker with an execution mindset to successfully bring efforts to completion.
Preferred
- At least 10 years of work experience
- Advanced Degree, MBA preferred, or other advanced degree with relevant business experience
