Manufacturing Engineer will performs complex process and engineering activities to ensure welding processes meet internal, customer, and regulatory requirements. This position will be responsible for welding techniques, processes, procedures, and applications of welding to products joining mainly stainless steels and super alloys. The majority of welding will be focused on manual and orbital TIG/MIG and laser welding. This job requires knowledge of industrial production specifications, characteristics and properties of metals and metal alloys, weld joining processes and thermal treatment as well as engineering principles. This position trouble-shoots production problems to determine root cause and corrective actions. The weld engineer will develop and test current, new, alternative, and advanced welding processes methods, techniques, equipment and procedures. The weld engineer will prepare technical reports on, joint validations, production qualification, joint investigations and limited research and technology. This position will require guidance and training to welders, including the certification process.
Develops, implements and maintains methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies. Interfaces with design engineering in coordinating the release of new products. Estimates manufacturing cost, determines time standards and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines. Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations.
- Bachelors degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
- AWS Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng), Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), or Certified Welding Supervisor is preferred.
- Strong background in welding and inspection including NDT. Working knowledge of AWS standards, and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Sections I, V, VIII, and IX.
- Knowledge of general steel fabrication practices, particularly welding, applicable to company products at a level typical for someone with 5 years' experience.
- Must be able to manage multiple efforts simultaneously and respond quickly to deadlines and problems requiring immediate action.
- Bachelors degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
Knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other packaged software
JOB COMPLEXITY
Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.
SUPERVISION
Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments. Determines and develops approach to solutions. May function as project lead or supervise/mentor other personnel.
EXPERIENCE
Typically requires a minimum of 5-7 years of related experience.
