SR MGR HSE - Operational Environmental Assurance

• Promotes a culture of continual improvement of work processes for reducing health, safety, and environmental risks to ensure a workplace and project where No One Gets Hurt, Nothing Gets Harmed.
• Lead and support a team that designs and supports environmental management system procedures, operational controls, and work instructions globally for the corporation.
• Support a team that designs environmental training and competence assurance material based on HSE policies, procedures, operational controls, and work instructions for employees, HSE auditors, HSE Management Reps, and Plant Managers.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of an electronic web-based environmental database.
• Ensure all necessary environmental permits (air, stormwater, etc), orders, and other legal, regulatory requirements, including monitoring performance against permit conditions are identified, obtained, and maintained.
• Ensure all required environmental regulatory and permit-required reports are accurately completed and submitted on time.
• Ensure environmental corrective actions from internal and external audits/inspections are closed out in a timely manner for each facility/division.
• Actively assist with corporate sustainability initiative planning and development.
• Direct and manage consultants on environmental projects
• Serve as liaison between the organization and regulatory agencies regarding environmental inspections, permits, and reporting
• Participate in corporate due diligence for environmental matters regarding acquisitions/divestures.
• Actively participate in the technical and resource planning of company HSE initiatives and supports line management to fulfill their HSE responsibilities.
• Assist line management with the development and on-going implementation of their HSE Management System processes for controlling workplace environmental risks.
• Support line management in resolving and closing out corrective and preventive actions for continual improvement of HSE compliance, conformance and performance.
• Apply appropriate best practices (e.g. international HSE standards, Six Sigma methodology, etc.) to identify and facilitate improvements to business processes, facilities and equipment, and safe work practices, including capital projects and management of change.
• Monitor compliance with contractual, legal and regulatory requirements; conformance to HSE Management System requirements; and HSE performance results using both proactive (leading) and reactive (lagging) measures.
• Participate in HSE workplace inspections, behavioral-based observations, and management system audits to assist line management in identifying nonconformities, defects and system deficiencies related to the HSE aspects of project/manufactured products and work activities.

Bachelor's degree in engineering/science (e.g. environmental science, industrial hygiene, mechanical, chemical, occupational safety and health sciences).
Qualification/Experience:
• 6+ years strong experience in an environmental compliance role supporting multiple facilities and projects, preferably within a global manufacturing environment.
• 3+ years experience managing an environmental compliance staff.
• Thorough knowledge of EPA, DOT, and local laws, regulations, codes, standards, and best industry practices for environmental compliance and best practices.
• Industrial hygiene (IH) experience preferred
• Strong management and leadership skills:
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented, able to handle multiple project tasks and activities.
- Ability to interface at all levels and with all functions of a matrix organization.
- Ability to work with ethnically and culturally diverse teams across an international spectrum.
- Customer service and quality oriented.
- Keen investigative, auditing, facilitation and problem-solving skills.
• Formal training and/or experience in managing:
- Leadership principles, management practices, human relations, and team building.
- Implementing and auditing HSE management systems (e.g. ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001).
- Emergency planning and preparedness (e.g. evacuation, first aid/CPR/AED, spill control, drills).
- Incident investigation and root cause analysis.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills:
- Highly proficient in English; second language desirable.
- Highly Proficient in technical writing, presentations, and training.
- Highly Proficient in computer software applications (e.g. MS Office).
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
