Overall Job Summary:
The Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, engineering and supporting analyses for the Delivery Systems modules. The successful candidate will provide high level design and implementation methods for verifying the Delivery System will meet the performance requirements over the environmental and shipping requirements for the lifetime of the product.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily:
- Provides engineering analyses (dynamic and static structural, thermal, optical, using FEA and other mathematical modeling) in support of the Delivery Systems module design and manufacturing practices
- Guides next generation designs and solutions which meet all environmental and performance requirements
- Develops and executes engineering tests to validate supporting analysis
- Supports field and in-process failures to ensure robust quality is designed into the Delivery System
- Works with RD to design and/or draft SolidWorks models and drawings and then process for release via MQ1 electronic change request software.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Manufacturing Process Development and QC in collaboration with Research and Development, Operations and Quality Management.
Qualification Requirements:
- Strong technical background in optical, electro-optical and opto-mechanical products and systems
- Expert-level user for SolidWorks and CosmosWorks (or equivalent)
- Working understanding of optical prescriptions in Zemax and optical system performance metrics (MTF, spot size, transmitted wavefront error, etc)
- Experience in optics mounting, active and static precision alignment and precision assembly
- Experience in designing active systems using servo-controlled mechanisms, active mirrors and scanning systems
- Working understanding of optical test methodologies and results
- Experience in joining/bonding technologies such as adhesives, epoxies and RTV's and the supporting selection analysis
- Can interface and communicate verbally as well as written with cross-functional personnel and co-workers, including design, manufacturing and quality engineering, supply chain management and supplier representatives. Is willing to be part of a team unit and cooperate in the accomplishment of organizational goals and objectives.
- Is dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. Is productive and efficient in planning and executing work and can work independently, under pressure, meet deadlines and prepare clear and concise reports.
- Is able to work with minimal to no supervision and can communicate with and follow the directions of the Director of Process Engineering to prioritize workload and determine priorities even when subjected to changes in schedule.
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum of B.S. in Engineering in related field(s) plus minimum of 7 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
- SolidWorks expertise
- CosmosWorks expertise
- Zemax familiarity
