Automobile Damage Appraiser - Virtual Field Employee

Territory includes Beltway area around DC, MD VA

The Automobile Damage Appraiser provides claims service and technical expertise regarding physical damage losses. Appraises, evaluates, negotiates and equitably settles first and third party total or repairable losses in accordance with terms and conditions of corporate guidelines, policy contracts, and existing insurance laws and regulations. This virtual field employee works within significant limits and authority on assignments of higher technical complexity and coordination; handles multiple property damage claims, evaluation of subrogation demands from adverse carrier, evaluation of auto motorcycle damage, negotiation of car damage estimates, out of state losses, and handling of claims coverage issues over the telephone.

Responsibilities include:

- Independently evaluates, negotiates and settles physical damage and total loss claims along with other suffixes (i.e. loss of use, property damage), which requires physical inspection and valuation

- Negotiates settlement of claim with insured, third party and attorneys

- Resolve claims coverage issues

- Process payments appropriately and review with supervision beyond authority

- Prepares file for authority review with supervisor or manager

- May prepare small claims court files and attend hearings; perform on-scene diagrams

Works in an office environment sitting at a desk, table or computer workstation for long periods of time. Approximately 50-80 percent of time spent on the job involves the use of a personal computer and a telephone headset. May travel by car, plane or other form of transportation to conduct business. Knowledge, Skills Abilities

Required:

- Knowledge of auto repair estimates and systems

- BS/BA, or equivalent experience

- Valid Driver's License

- Demonstrated technical knowledge and skills reflective of successful progression through job family levels, inclusive of auto-body repair practices and procedures

- Strong and effective negotiation skills

- Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills

- Basic math and working computer skills with technical aptitude to utilize a variety of software applications

- Strong oral and written communication skills

- Ability to work in a flexible, changing environment

- Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and goal-oriented

- Proficient in ability to write estimates in computerized estimating systems

Preferred:

- Typically 3+ years of claims experience

- Adjusters license, and may be required by state
