This position is with our core division Symmetrix. Principal Engineering Program Manager ? Host Software GENERAL SUMMARY Manages multiple highly complex technical programs, projects and initiatives affecting area goals and objectives. Oversees multiple cross-functional Engineering teams (e.g., Development, QA, Build, and Documentation), defining priorities and allocation of resources, tracking schedules and reporting status to upper management. From in-depth awareness of product features, customer use cases, industry trends, business conditions, and internal processes and practices, ensures successful completion of programs and initiatives. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES The primary role of the Host Software Engineering Program Manager is to coordinate the engineering process across multiple cross-functional teams for multiple Symmetrix Host Software products from inception thru release. These duties and responsibilities include: ? Ensuring each program is delivered within budget and on schedule ? Ensuring that all projects in a program successfully integrate to meet the requirements and functionality specified in the requirement and functional specifications ? Working closely with managers to identify material/resource requirements and staffing for projects within a program ? Building a program schedule with goals milestones, and driving the execution of the program to meet these goals and milestones ? Coordinating and facilitating cross-functional project review meetings ? Communicating program content, status, issues, etc. to both the Symmetrix leadership team and external organization, including Marketing, Product Management, Customer Service, Manufacturing, etc. ? Providing a holistic perspective of the system, and from this perspective integrate all of the technical efforts to ensure that their various subsystems work with one another ? Identifying program risks/concerns and providing recommendations for adjustments or mitigation plans ? Review and sign-off of all project requirements, functional and test specifications, and technical product documentation ? Driving continuous improvement of product/solution development lifecycle process, practices and initiatives ? Driving consistency between programs by identifying and sharing best practices. SKILLS The successful Engineering Program Manager will have the following critical skills: ? A complete understanding of the software development process, from requirements definition thru software quality assurance, and the ability to drive execution across all of the phases ? The ability to manage large, complex software programs in a matrix environment with competing priorities, including project coordination, scheduling and tracking ? Strong technical/product/industry knowledge in Storage technologies, including Management, High Availability, Virtualization, Automation, Replication, etc. ? Strong technical skills, including understanding of algorithms, systems architecture, and end-user experience ? The ability to coordinate and drive consensus across groups. Proven communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. ? Leadership influence. Provide clear direction and priorities, and gain support and commitment of others. Convey a sense of urgency and drive issues to closure. Motivate others to achieve results.
