Title: Sr. Project Leader, Data Centers

 

Summary:  Responsible for managing IT project teams including end user and third party provider activities pertaining to the design, development, testing, documentation, and implementation of data center, disaster recovery and services.  This individual will be focused on the fitup of the new co-location data center, support migration of Commercial applications from heritage data centers and serve as steward for data centers and supplier relationship management.  Candidates should be experienced in data center build, application migrations, disaster recovery management, maintenance and management. 

 

General Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Data Center Focused Duties and Responsibilities:

 

·      Install, configure, and maintain technical system hardware to support business processing requirements.

·      Inspect, monitor, document and report the condition of the numerous systems that make up the data center facility. This is done to ensure the proper operation of the entire data center system. Proficiency in the use of the numerous building/system automation and monitoring systems is critical.

·      Read, comprehend and work from complex technical information (i.e. blueprints, sketches, building plans and schematics) pertaining to electrical and mechanical systems that serve the data centers. Use safety equipment as required and comply with all safety programs and training.

·      Maintain mechanical, electrical, security and fire protection systems found in our sophisticated data center environments. These facility systems support the mission critical Information Technology systems (servers, mainframeand storage) that are used to operate the business.

·      Coordinate, inspect and verify the work of external contractors and technicians.  All work must be completed in a safe, effective and reliable manner. 

·      Provide Level 2 and 3 technical support, assist in the evaluation of new products and services, and may manage vendor service level agreements.

·      Install and troubleshoot systems to ensure functional objectives of the business are met.

·      Perform capacity and resource planning by assessing risks and developing contingency plans.

·      Support and assist the Disaster Recovery Team with the design of DR Plans including routine DR exercises per site.

·      Assist with the configuration and maintenance of physical and logical components.

·      Monitor, analyze, and tune the technical system to achieve optimal performance levels.

·      Ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.

·      Develop and maintain a comprehensive technical system configuration and database library of all supporting documentation.

·      Develops business cases and gains understanding of project and operational budgeting.

·      Assists development team with modeling, physical design and capacity planning.

·      Assists in the recommendation of strategies for data center and infrastructure management from business continuity, disaster recovery, monitoring, storage, security.

·      Routinely audits hardware and software to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, procedures, and configuration guidelines.

·      Implements and use backup and restore techniques.

·      Provide on "on-call" coverage during nonworking hours to answer questions and/or respond to emergency situations.

·      Manages third party contract commitments, service levels and costs relative to data center hosting and media management.

·      Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

Education: Four (4) year degree or equivalent experience

Experience: 8 - 10 yrs

Skills:

·      Extensive knowledge in UL Standards governing Central Stations

·      Has developed extensive business knowledge and keeps current on industry trends.

·      Recognized as a subject matter expert.

·      Extensive electrical and mechanical experience including National Electrical Code (NFPA 70)

·      Proven negotiation skills and vendor management aptitude

·      Comprehension of common predictive and preventative maintenance techniques 

·      Ability to lift 50 pounds.

·      Proven discretionary judgment with ability to resolve both routine and non routine issues.

·      Attention to detail with an ability to follow through on project objectives.

·      Proven communication skills and exceptional service attitude

·      Ability to work in a team based environment with other facilities and technology professionals

·      Demonstrated ability to handle a multi-tasking environment.

·      Basic computer skills. Windows, Microsoft Office

·      Proficient with Building Automation Systems preferred

·      Proficient with Electrical Power Monitoring Systems

·      Familiarity with PCI level 2, FISMA guidelines and general IT controls.

·       Possess high-level knowledge and proficiency in Project Management methodologies, Resource Management practices and Change Management techniques.

·       Good written and verbal communication skills including ability to develop presentations and present to management

·       Basic knowledge and understanding of business principles, practices and procedures

·       Functional expertise and fundamental business knowledge to contribute to the strategic direction of the function and supported client group(s).  May need to seek guidance on highly complex issues.
