We currently are seeking a dynamic, strategic, and innovative Sr Raw Materials Buyer. This key position will be based in our corporate offices in Northridge, CA (So. CA).
Position Summary:
Performs portfolio analysis, develops portfolio strategy, selects suppliers, negotiates, purchases and expedites materials for production. Coordinates activities with other departments and suppliers to ensure materials meet quality specifications at the best value. Works with appropriate internal resources to identify and implement projects that improve the value of the supply chain.
Responsibilities:
- Performs market analysis and recommends strategy for a highly complex $60 - $80 million portfolio.
- Prepares and presents commodity overviews to cross functional audience including Managers, Directors, and Vice Presidents.
- Manages strategic supplier relationships including periodic cross functional strategic supplier review sessions to drive overall supplier value improvement.
- Sources and selects suppliers, negotiates prices, and recommends purchases, to obtain the best possible prices while adhering to quality specifications, service demands and supplier innovation opportunity.
- Responsible for following up on orders, verifying availability and delivery dates. Prioritizes, schedules and expedites delivery of materials to meet target dates, prevents excessive inventory and avoids stock shortages.
- Serves as a liaison between other departments and Procurement Department to ensure adequate supplies of materials are available on hand when needed.
- Analyzes and reports purchase price variances to ensure adherence of suppliers to contractual obligations; prepares monthly vendor reports detailing supplier performance regarding service and quality.
- Interfaces with Quality Control Department, Technical Operations, Product Development and suppliers to resolve quality and rejected materials problems to ensure manufacturing has highest quality of materials required.
- Works with Product Development, Technical Operations and Manufacturing to source new or improved raw materials.
- Maintains vendor performance history and updates computer system on current pricing.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Requires four year college degree or its equivalent. Masters in business or related field preferred.
Experience:
Requires five to eight years purchasing, contracts, negotiating or other relevant experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Competent knowledge of manufacturing process including forecasting, production, packaging, and planning
- Excellent knowledge of material resource planning systems and spreadsheet software.
- Good mathematical, oral and written communication skills, and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to excel in an intensive, fast paced environment.
Strongly Preferred:
- Background in grains, grain by-products, chemicals, or other traded commodity.
- Experience optimizing total value of supply chains.
- Knowledge of graphic and database software.
Physical Requirements:
General office environment, ability to sit for long periods of time. Ability to move about an office.
Environment:
Exposure to disagreeable elements is negligible.
