Responsibilities

GENERAL SUMMARY / OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

This job entails being responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Growing Up Today Studies, a longitudinal cohort of the offspring of the women who participate in the Nurses Health Study. In addition, the person in this position will actively participate in the discussions about the scientific goals of the study.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Planning and implementation of participant communication strategies. Includes active and supervised design and maintenance of multiple GUTS websites, researching and updating GUTS Facebook site, researching new communication avenues (e.g. texting, online advertising, etc), piloting new methods of participant communication and follow-up, and communicating directly with participants in multiple modes to answer their questions and learn more about their wants and needs.
2. In collaboration with the Director, establishes study procedures and participant retention strategies and oversees the day-to-day conduct of the study in accordance with the study protocol. Creates plans to maintain the participation of cohort members, including developing procedures to locate lost subjects, supervising the research assistants who conduct lookups, and editing existing phone calling systems as needed.
3. Develops and generates written responses to study participants and their mothers concerning routine as well as unusual problems and questions (refusals, deaths, etc).
4. Working independently and in collaboration with GUTS investigators, designs and updates questionnaires that are the basis of all analysis and follow-up of each study. Designs forms to suit the requirements of the particular grant aims/cohort needs in Adobe InDesign and works with outside vendors to finalize. Develops mailing timelines and works with mailing house to coordinate each paper questionnaire mailing.
5. Writes and designs HTML emails for questionnaire invitations and general participant communications. Utilizes Publicaster software to target emails appropriately to different participant groups and assess participant response.
6. Creates additional study materials as needed, including newsletters, postcards, inserts, and mothers"€™ questionnaires. Coordinates paper mailings and emailings of these items to participants.
7. Monitors response rates to questionnaires or postcards to participants. Reports back information biweekly at GUTS meetings, and to investigators for grants and annual progress reports. With the Director, coordinates biweekly meeting agenda and materials for distribution.
8. Works with staff and Director to ensure on-going IRB compliance; updates protocols as needed. Monitors procedures and materials for potential IRB conflicts.
9. Oversees biologic sample collection investigations including enrollment, quality control, and interaction with biorepository infrastructure personnel.
10. Oversees study expenditures including those for payments to outside vendors, internal supplies, incentives, and contracts. Works with financial staff to monitor balances and sources of funding. Provides budgetary information to investigators as needed for grant applications.
11. All other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor"€™s degree with 3-5 years work experience required.
2. Previous data collection/research assistant experience required.
3. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
4. Must be innovative, able to work independently with initiative.
5. Must be comfortable multi-tasking and handling several projects at once.
6. Attention to detail a must.

SKILLS / ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

Cubicle on the 3rd floor of the Channing with dedicated desktop computer and phone

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervise 2 FTE research assistants and coordinate student contributions

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:
