Job Description
Provide training, consulting, and development services to the BU community in high-performance research computing as part of the Scientific Computing and Visualization (SCV) group within Information Services Technology. Work with researchers in a variety of disciplines on tasks such as modeling, analysis, program porting, data management, optimization and tuning, and parallelization. Support users in transition to new resources to be deployed in the Massachusetts Green High-Performance Computing Center (MGHPCC). SCV provides specialized computing and communication resources in support of computational science and engineering, scientific visualization, computer graphics, and other disciplines that require high-performance computing or complex visualization. The computing facilities provided by the group include a 1024-node IBM Blue Gene system, a collection of IBM pSeries 655 shared-memory systems, and an IBM Blade-Center comprised of 99 blade servers with 588 processors. These facilities will expand when the MGHPCC becomes operational next year. The group also manages a computer graphics laboratory and a high- resolution, tiled, stereoscopic display wall.
Required Skills
Requires: Master's degree, Ph. D. preferred, in bioinformatics, engineering, physics, mathematics, computational science, or equivalent; proficiency in commonly used analysis and modeling packages, such as Matlab and SAS. Ability to work on complex programs in Fortran and C/C++ in a Linux environment. Experience with MS Windows desirable. Good communication skills, and be able to work independently with minimal direction, and work well in a team. Proficiency in statistics and/or bioinformatics highly desirable. Must have five to eight years of experience.
