Atkins’ San Antonio Ecology Group is seeking an experienced Senior Scientist to join a successful and expanding team of environmental professionals in the San Antonio, Texas office. The role of the Senior Scientist will be to contribute to project management and technical expertise in the general field of environmental site assessments (ESA), remediation oversight, subsurface investigations, document development and related services for the central and south Texas regions. Business development skills are preferred.

 Job responsibilities will be to:
• Manage project assignments of varying complexity and size;
• Provide technical services and oversight as required by the project;

Interact with clients, regulatory agencies and sub-consultants to achieve project objectives;
• Coordinate and participate in contract negotiations with clients and subcontractors;
• Draft professional service agreements;
• Mentor technical staff to assist in training and development; and
• Identify new business opportunities for the firm. 
 

Job Requirements:

The appropriately qualified candidate will have the following core competencies and required experience:


B.A. /B.S. or M.S. in a field of Science, including Anthropology, Historic Preservation or related field, commensurate with hiring discipline. This level may be achieved by Scientists with minimum five years experience since Bachelor's degree or four years experience with Master's degree; typical incumbent has six to seven years' experience.


Good analytical skills and attention to detail, technical writing, computer and communication skills. May be eligible for project management training.

The ideal candidate would have expertise in the direction of consulting, management and quality control of multiple project efforts which may include coordination with clients, sub-consultants and regulatory agencies. Preferred certifications include professional geologist, professional engineer, registered environmental manager, and corrective action project manager. Specifically, we are looking for a candidate with experience in some or all of the following:


• ASTM Environmental Site Assessments Phase I, II, and III;
• Texas Risk Reduction Program;
• Leaking Petroleum Storage Tank;
• Brownfields, Asbestos, SPCC;

Karst Assessments
• Municipality and/or Department of Defense work experience; and
• Regulatory agency interaction.
