Sr Software Engineer I

Job Description: This Software Engineering position requires an array of technical competencies including the ability to advise and assist in product implementation, modifications and enhancements to product in accordance with customer specifications. The position is based Langley AFB, VA. This is a Mission Essential (ME) position and the individual selected must be qualified to support U-2 operations under a variety of conditions and impending or active hostilities. In addition, the position supports a USAF worldwide deployable program so the individual selected must be able and ready to deploy anywhere in the world at a moment's notice. An active Top Secret security clearance is required. Employment is contingent on meeting all medical requirements for overseas assignment including comprehensive post-offer medical examination. Primary Responsibilities : Working under general direction, collaborate with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems software for the U-2. Determine computer user needs; advise hardware designers on machine characteristics that affect software systems such as storage capacity, processing speed, and input/output requirements; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Additional responsibilities may include: - Be willing to independently determine and develop approach to solutions. - Monitor, analyze and characterize the performance of complex data processing systems. - Isolate faults ? Trace faults and distinguish between hardware and software fault sources. - Maintain contact with immediate supervisor and provide regular activity status - Advise in integration and test of new hardware and updated software. - Conduct database builds and support installation. - Work with a diverse team of users, analysts, contractor personnel, and customers. Required Experience: -Expertise typically gained through four or more years of hardware/software/ system administration experience including ground station support, UNIX, and system administration experience, and Solaris 8 or 10 operating system. - Problem Solving -- Ability to develop solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation. Ability to ensure solutions are consistent with organization objectives. - Be willing to represent the organization as a consultant to management on matters pertaining to its policies, plans, and objectives. - Excellent oral and written communication abilities. - Strong teamwork skills ? Ability to interact productively with end users, analysts, other Raytheon personnel, and customers in a diverse team setting. - Ability to automate tasks to ensure repeatability, write and follow documentation, communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, and plan effectively to complete tasks. - Experience using a software configuration management system. Desired Skills : ASARS/U-2 experience Knowledgeable in military equipment accounts and the Core Automated Maintenance System (CAMS) Knowledgeable and experienced on the Solaris 10 operating system Security+ or CCNA certified Required education : Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science or Mathematics, or a minimum of 12 years experience or a combination of experience, education, and training may substitute for the degree. Security Clearance Requirements: Active Top Secret-SSBI required. Special Work Circumstances: - Working rotating shifts may be required. - Frequent travel and long working hours are anticipated. - Must be able to lift 40 pounds and able to sit for long periods of time. - Must be willing and able to get all inoculations, including the Anthrax Vaccine and the Smallpox Vaccine, required by the US military. - Must be willing and able to deploy to environments that may include harsh living conditions (extreme heat and cold, deployed living conditions, etc).
