Job Summary:
Under limited management direction, is responsible for performing complex programming tasks, participating in system and program module design and modify existing software.
Duties Responsibilities:
- Perform complex programming tasks as assigned or required.
- Develop new programs from specifications and modifies existing software as directed.
- Researches problems, identifies the source, and takes corrective action.
- Identify errors in specifications and shortcomings in software requirement statements; recommends corrective actions.
- Complete assignments within established time schedules.
- Provide status reports on assignments.
- Participate in technical project meetings on assigned software development tasks.
- Provide technical assistance to multilane customers.
- Adhere to all established departmental programming standards, policies and procedures.
- Adhere to performance and productivity standards established by manager.
Knowledge, Skills Experience Required:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent education required. Five years software development and systems design experience may substitute education.
- Four years software design and development experience required, including significant system design and analysis experience.
- A complete knowledge of software engineering concepts including software development practices, data structures and database organization required.
- Ability to program in JAVA (Expert) and C++ languages is required.
- Ability to develop application software for POS terminals, to provide on demand site support, to conduct training, installation, presentation and demonstration to end users is highly preferred.
- Must have extensive knowledge and experience in Microsoft Windows, Linux, and/or embedded systems and software development on Microsoft Windows and Linux platform is required. The minimum experience required is 5 years but 9 years is preferable.
- Must be an experienced (3-5 years) Client/Server application developer and experience in developing transactional and real-time multi-threaded applications.
- Must have skills in developing and managing the formal processes for project management tracking and reporting, including formal Software Development Life Cycle concepts.
- Must be able to communicate well in the English language and have good spoken and written communication skills.
- Must have good interpersonal and problem resolution skills and be able to communicate with technopeasants.
- Must be able to function as a team member on project and product assignments.
- Must be able to acquire new skills and understand new concepts quickly.
Physical Requirements for the Job:
Work is performed in a normal cubicle office environment requiring sitting most of the day utilizing standard office equipment; including computers, telephones, faxes and copying machines. Must be able to enter data on a keyboard. Vision must be correctable to be able to perform the same duties a sighted person would be able to perform. Must be able to understand and communicate with people speaking english as a second language as well as native English speakers with various regional and national accents.
