Sr Staff Commodity Manager
Seagate is searching for a Commodity Manager
that will report to a Materials Director in the Commodity Management
group. The position can be located at either Longmont, CO or
Bloomington, MN.
Responsible for
the development and management of strategic sourcing strategies for capital equipment,
Spares, and services required in the manufacture of Data storage products. The successful
candidate will work as part of a leading edge global team of strategically focused
professionals .This role provides an excellent opportunity to make impacts on
profitability and operational performance and is critical to business success. The
Successful candidate will work closely with Product Platform launch Teams, Core
Teams, Design Engineering and Supplier Quality Engineers to assure technology
and supply are synchronized effectively.
Typical
duties include but are not limited to:

Lead/facilitate cross functional international teams including members from Design Engineering, Quality
Engineering, Process Engineering, Equipment Engineering, Environmental Health
and Safety, Finance, Facilities, IT, and Treasury departments. -
Ensure that Internal customer requirements are synchronized effectively with Seagate?s
strategic supply base. -
Work directly with team members throughout Asia, Europe,
and the United States to communicate and implement key strategic initiatives,
policies and procedures. -
Negotiate, implement, and be responsible for the
management of agreements such as:
Independent Contractor, Service, Supply, Joint Development,
Non-disclosure and various other agreements as applicable. -
Meet Total Cost of ownership
saving goals through strategic negotiation. -
Align strategic requirements with qualified supply base through supplier
analysis (financial, process, quality, capability, and production capacity). -
Develop and present Supplier business reviews
to suppliers and Seagate management. -
Participate
in competitive analysis to identify best in class design concepts and works
with interdepartmental counterparts to integrate component and process ideas to
provide robust and cost effective designs. -
Manage strategic relationships with
suppliers. -
Perform cost analysis and volume planning for major commodities to
assure the lowest cost of acquisition. -
Attain and keep current technical and
commercial understanding of goods and services purchased as well as the overall
market conditions. -
Will identify and select suppliers for major commodities and
ensures backup sources are in place where applicable. -
Evaluate suppliers'
production capacity and ability to meet commitments as well as respond to
upside demand. -
Drive implementation of Supply Chain Initiatives with supplier
base. -
Develop new supply sources when technology requires it or supply is
inadequate.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- 5 years in an Engineering, project
management, procurement or commodity management role. - Demonstrate a proven track record of strong team leadership, building
strategic supplier relationships, and delivering year on year business
improvements. - Requires a strong ability to influence, communicate, and build relationships
at all levels within the organization. - Strong Negotiation skills along with
sound commercial acumen are essential to this role. - Fluent in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Engineering or Business Degree
preferred. - Preference may be given to candidates with a post
graduate degree or CPIM/APICS certification. - Ability to demonstrate clear understanding and knowledge of contract law.
- Preference may be given to candidates with Business excellence experience in fields such as Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing.
