Sr. Strategy Analyst

GENERAL PURPOSE: The Sr. Strategy Analyst will play a key role in addressing significant challenges in how we continue to support our off-price strategy. He/She will report to the Sr. Director of Strategy and be a part of a distinctive strategy team, comprised of alumni from the top consulting firms (Bain, BCG, McKinsey and others). On occasion the Sr. Strategy Analyst will also work directly with the EVP of Strategy, Marketing and HR. The Sr. Strategy Analyst should expect to interact frequently with key operators, merchants as well as other strategy team members in Pleasanton and New York, and present findings to the top executives of the company (CEO, COO, Chief Merchant) ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Perform practical, action oriented, comprehensive data analysis in support of Strategic business initiatives -Conduct analysis - including pulling data, building models and analyzing financial, operational or statistical data - to support key strategic priorities for the Company (working in conjunction with Strategy team members and other key senior executives) -Develop compelling materials to communicate results of analysis and key insights internally and externally (e.g. Board meetings, Operating Committee meetings, Strategic off-sites etc.) Analyze business problems and develop insights into root causes and improvement opportunities -Understand the off-price business and diagnose key business problems. Create and execute plans to gather data and develop practical solutions. Support key cross-functional initiatives -Coordinate analysis for select cross-functional initiatives (e.g. new format improvement, roll-out strategy for new business opportunities). This will require working closely with store operations, DCs and other areas of the business. Drive customer insights across formats -Conduct and analyze consumer research to provide insight on strategy issues for the company and for individual businesses Manage external research, information vendors and system providers -Work intensively with customer research providers (e.g. create and analyze customer surveys) and manage different data providers. Monitor ongoing and ad hoc internal and external events -Provide ad hoc business and competitive intelligence and insights for key senior executives: e.g. new store performance, competitive information, quota situation, gas prices, mergers acquisitions impacts COMPETENCIES: -Analysis and Judgment -Drive Results -Business Acumen -Influence -Collaboration -Communication -Teamwork -Technical/Functional competence QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED: -Top-tier college degree, ideally with an analytical background -Minimum of 2 years post-college experience, preferably with a top-tier consulting firm or retailer -Outstanding analytical ability: Must have a data driven approach to solving problems. Requires very strong quantitative skills and a good sense of how to dissect problems. -Must be able to set priorities while conducting analysis to quickly arrive at an actionable solution. -Detail-oriented approach: Must have very close attention to details and the drive to get things right. -Teamwork/Communication: Needs to be able to build effective working relationships within and outside the Strategy team. Must be able to listen, understand, and communicate with executives at all levels of the company. -Strong fundamental business skills - must be Excel and PowerPoint proficient. -Advanced financial and statistical modeling skills and database analysis -Clear understanding of basic financial, statistical and economic concepts SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: -None
