Establishes appropriate premium rates for the most complex new and renewing group health insurance customers. Analyzes existing and prospective business utilizing established underwriting criteria, policies and rating methodologies in order to establish appropriate funding levels for customers. Completes rating analysis for new groups or new lines of coverage and prices benefit redesigns and alternate financing arrangements for existing accounts. Develops various underwriting analyses/exhibits: premium rates, retention illustrations, cost-plus exhibits, stop-loss pricing, and letters of agreement. Provides rate development and renewal rate development for cases utilizing all rating methodologies. May formulate successful account strategies in order to achieve maximum membership gain while balancing the financial risk represented by the accounts. Responsible for the completion of Requests for Proposals (RFP's) and Requests for Information (RFI's). Monitors and evaluates profitability on current lines of business and analyzes new business utilizing established underwriting criteria and policies to provide proper rating methodologies for customers. Assists in the training and development of Associate, Underwriter I, and Underwriter II positions. Provides ongoing assistance to Marketing, Customers, Brokers/Consultants and other internal customers with technical rating issues. Is considered an expert in Underwriting. Maintains and updates various tracking databases. Oversees the work of the Associate Underwriter or more junior level Underwriters. Supports department in special projects and tasks as assigned

Bachelors' degree in Business Administration, Mathematics or related field or equivalent work experience required. A minimum of five years of group health underwriting experience required. The ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under tight timeframes in required. Strong analytical and mathematical skills as well as the ability to recognize research and resolve discrepancies are required. Demonstrated knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite of methodologies and rating processes. Must be detail oriented, skilled in problem solving and knowledgeable of insurance concepts and rating techniques.
