Sr. UNIX / Linux Systems Engineers Job in Scottsdale, Arizona US
A growing and established company is looking for a few Sr. UNIX Systems Engineers!
This position is responsible for design configuration of our hardware infrastructure to meet Customer SLAs. We strive for zero impact to the customer at the same time we are reducing cost of the infrastructure. Infrastructure includes Hardware, High Availability, Disk SAN, and 3rd Party Applications.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Planning/Training for maintenance of UNIX Servers
- Participate in UNIX SA secondary 'on-call' rotation schedule
- Provide 7x24 support in the event that a more junior Systems Administrator needs on-call assistance
- Design configurations, maintenance, and installation in support of various infrastructure applications
- Configure and design productions system fail-overs, back-ups, and monitoring tools
- Perform Long-term Capacity Planning
- Hardware / Software evaluations
- Written purchase justifications
- Design and document new procedures Vendor Liaison Training and Mentoring of other Administrators
- Present proposals to upper management
- Plan and direct the work of others in support of a specific project
Required Skills and Experience:
- 8+years of UNIX Operating System experience
- Required: Solaris, Apache and Tomcat
- Storage networking experience preferred
- Networking experience with VPN and MPLS is preferred
- 3+ years of UNIX System configuration and design skills
- Excellent UNIX scripting skills
- Strong Perl and Shell programming skills
- Excellent diagnostic skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to work with minimal supervision
- Decisive troubleshooting during crises
- Proven leadership skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent project planning skills
- Excellent training skills
Application support specific items are:
- Establish guidelines for the installation, upgrade, and patch of third party and open application sets (SunOne Web Server, Application Server, Directory Server, Apache, Tomcat, and Perl)
- Establish procedures for troubleshooting installed applications for basic configuration issues and functionality
- Develop common application installation standards including validation methods installation
- Work with revision control tools (CVS, SVN, etc.) to provide, maintain and standardize enterprise code stores
- Coordinate application modification and upgrades with other group to include test cycles and change requests
- Document per product packaging and deployment details with goal of environment recreation for Disaster Recovery
- Provide on call backend support in troubleshooting complex software functionality issues as needed
