EXEMPT POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

Position:              Sr Web Designer/Developer             Incumbent:      OPEN

Reports to:           Director, Information Technology           Department:   Information Technology

 

Position Purpose:

The Web Designer/Developer is responsible for the design, development and ongoing maintenance of the PBUCC corporate web presence.    Working with application developers, marketing and communications and graphic designers he/she will design, develop, test and deliver web sites,.  Enhancements and defect resolution will be required on an ongoing basis.  Best practices and design methods will be utilized to insure the success of the web site. The developer will have the responsibility to create web designs and components from the requirements stage to production deployment.  He/she will be required to have experience in graphics, layout, scripting, HTML, content management systems, open source web components, web infrastructure and development.  He/she will be responsible for using knowledge of best practices in web design to ensure high quality, functional, visually pleasing and accessible web sites that are the operational standard.

Flexibility, adaptability and the ability to learn quickly in various technical and creative environments, while delivering quality work by tight deadlines, are key attributes of this individual.

Key Accountabilities:

·         Responsible for the design and development of web pages, graphics, multimedia.

·         Responsible for the development of web applications and components utilizing open source, vendor components or outside service agencies to deliver integrated compatible solutions.

·         Configuration, installation and administration of CMS system(s).

·         Scripting CMS and web based application workflow to meet business requirements.

·         Effectively develops well structured, easily maintainable web components, pages, style sheets etc.

·         Utilizes storyboarding and graphic pre-designs where appropriate.

·         Formatting and processing of audio and video files for web compatibility and presentation.

·         Supervises vendors necessary for web sub-systems, hosting and application components.

·         Trains end users in CMS operation.

·         Develop, deploy and monitor procedures around CMS utilization and web content changes/updates.

·         Monitor, analyze and prepare various levels of management reports on web traffic, visitors, page views, utilization patterns, etc.

·         Responsible for meeting expectations and deliverables on time and in high quality.

·         Demonstrates creative, technical and analytical skills.

·         Communicates web issues effectively in both technical and business environments.

·         Other duties as assigned.

 

Background/Experience Required:

·         Experience in developing websites and/or web applications.  Minimum of 5-7 years of corporate level web design and development experience is required.

·         Expert in HTML, CSS, W3C.

·         Experience with CMS systems installation, configuration and maintenance such as Joomla, Radient, MSCMS, SilverStripe, Frog(Radiant fork)

·         Experience with and testing using various versions of IE, Chrome, Firefox, Safari.

·         Experience with web accessibility based upon the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines published by the W3C's Web Accessibility Initiative.

·         Solid understanding of navigation and Graphical User Interfaces for maximizing usability.

·         Front-end and back-end integration knowledge.

·         Practical experience in development of HTML, CSS, SQL, Perl, graphics creation with Photoshop, Illustrator, multimedia creation with Flash and other development tools.

·         Experience with Subversion, Git or a similar system. 

 ·        Practical exposure and/or experience with some or all of the following: Java Server Pages and Java, XML, PHP, Oracle, MS  
        SQL Server, ColdFusion Server, CFML, CFScript, IIS, Windows Server environments.

·         Experience with MS-SQL Server 2005, 2008 installation, configuration for web use a plus.

·         Knowledge of/experience with Google Postini email services a plus.

·         Experience integrating web services with various email systems including Exchange 2010

·         Ability to identify and resolve computer system malfunctions and operational problems. Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.

·         Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.

·         Ability to provide technical training to end users.

·         Ability to learn and support new systems and applications.

·         Strong interpersonal and communication skills

·         Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.

·         Excellent written and oral communication skills.

·         Desire to work in a collaborative, innovative environment.
